scrap it program.. anyone know the details?

parents want to get a new car. you may have seen discussion on the vibe/matrix/mazda 3 page.

anyways, we have a 96 caravan. i think if we trade it in, we'll get nothing more than 500 bucks for it.

i heard of the Scrap It Program though. apparently they'll only take cars from 95 and older. does anyone know come next year, will they change it to include 96 cars? or is 95 set and they're not gonna change it?

$500 for a '96 caravan is a good trade value these days. There are HUNDREDS of mid 90's caravans sitting in wholesale lots that you could buy right now for $1000 cash. Yours is not special and is not worth more. I just took a '98 caravan in on trade, with 200,000kms and we gave them $500 which was very fair, in my opinion.

you can go to scrapit.ca to get the details, however not all dealerships participate, and not all vehicles qualify. IMHO it's only worth it if the dealership doesn't even want to take your vehicle in on trade.

Good luck! It's going to be hard considering how many $1000 Caravans are on craigslist.

hey lilaznviper,

what car were you going to get in replacement of it? you can SCRAP IT, and get way more!

www.scrapit.ca go to the CO2 calculator. if you're trading in a 95 van, for like a small car, you can probably get $2250 for the van. if not, you'll probably get $1250 or $750.
