| Montreal and Quebec City for Christmas
Please post your ideas of cool things to do.
It's been years since my last visit, and so far I've come up with ...
- see the Ice Hotel and have a drink there
- skate and watch fireworks at the outdoor rink
- take pics at the interior of the Notre Dame
- No Habs home game ... and no Cirque du Soleil either ... crap ...
- French-Canadian food
I must be missing tons of good stuff. What am I missing?

Visit Old Montreal and the Science World. If you're there in early January, I believe they have the Auto Show then.

eat poutine whereever ya can [for me one of the best pout i had there was at the Casino lol]
The casino is pretty cool if u have time to kill
St.Laurent Street
St.Catherines
pretty much all i can recomend is downtown and the surrounding areas lol, me and my friends drove out to Bishops university while we were there to visit friends, its cool to stop into some of the smaller towns and attempt to interact in french lol
highlight of our first day was stopping at some little local gas station off the freeway and the Coors Light Rep was there, we started talking to him and said we were from BC and had never seen 950ML cans before, so he told us if we each bought a 40oz of coors light each, he would hook us up with 10 950ML cans for free LOL
he gave us the thumbs up as he drove by us in a park across the street, shotgunning our breakfast at 8:45 in the morning LOL

DaFonz: Thanks for the pointers. Schwartz's is in my plan. I wasn't sure if I wanted to specifically single out La Banquise out of so many poutine places (I'm staying in the Latin Quarter), but since you're giving it thumbs up, I know it's gotta be good. Plus now that you're highly recommending St Viateurs which is just a couple blocks away, I think I'll go there and try them both. Many thanks!

I went by these reviews to pick my place. I ated the small T-rex and the Trios Amigoes and felt like dying from a heart attack after. Note: Normal people eat one plate... or half of one small plate. Also remember that sausages are HOT DOGS.. I was rather annoyed by that.
For schwartz, just do take out and eat on the street. Saves the annoying line-up and the food is just as good.
When are you going? I might be hopping on the train to visit around Christmas.
Completely random, but come to Toronto and eat at Rain. I had a meal there last weekend and it was fucking amazing.

We're going after Christmas ... not sure exactly when, but Quebec City is the main draw for us. Toronto is too far for this trip. Maybe I'll try Rain in some business trip in the future.

oh and if u want a really good steak house check out Moishes: http://www.moishes.ca/flash.html
it's priced a little higher then your typical Gotham meal but it was one of the best peices of meat i've had in a longgg time
great atmosphere as well

I'm going to Montreal in first week of March. I heard that the people are nicer to you if you try to speak crappy French first before going to English than if you speak to them in English right away, is that true?

^ almost everyone in downtown montreal speaks english i'd say like 95% know it and treat u fine in english
when i was trying on some jeans in Buffalo there was a superrrr fucking cute little french chick, all she could speak was broken english but she was trying so hard to talk to me and help me out lol, super cute

Even using broken English such as "Parlez-vous anglais" works better than no English at all.

Came back from Quebec couple days ago. The main highlights were:
- a $189 speeding ticket on Highway 40
- superb French cooking at cheap prices ... like a $53 set meal for 2 ppl that had duck and rabbit confit, foie gras, and an amazing smoked duck breast etc.
- staying inside the walled part of Quebec City ... the scenery was almost disney-esque except it's a real city with real inhabitants.
Montreal was okay ... visited Schwartz's and St Viateur Bagels etc ... but not my cup of tea.
Oh yeah ... and joining Quebec City's 400th anniversary New Years countdown party outdoors with thousands of ppl ... at -20 degrees Celcius ... never been so cold in my life.
