I just want to be safe cuz I want to use my data plan here in vancouver n not get stuck with some version which I can't use my data here

+Kardboard+ 06-11-2009 01:29 PM

OK, someone set me straight. I thought the N97 only came in one version, like the E51 did, that worked on 3G everywhere? So there's a NAM and EU/APAC version now? :(

Tim Budong 06-11-2009 02:05 PM

Apac/euro runs on 900/1900@2100
Nam runs 850/1900/2100

avinayyar 06-11-2009 08:07 PM

Just put a god damn Triband UMTS antenna in all your overly priced phones.. RIM & Apple is doing it, why the *uck can't you Nokia & HTC ???

Edit: N97 excluded.

RR33 06-11-2009 09:31 PM

im so thorn apart between n97 or i8910 !

stupid samsung not putting a NAM 3G on i8910.

kayceeee 06-11-2009 09:35 PM

just to be clear one thing...as long as we get a phone with 850 for 3G, it'llwork for NAM?

wahyinghung 06-11-2009 09:48 PM

For a $1000cdn a pop I would wait it out a bit and let Nokia fix the bugs first........

NAM 3G is 850/1900. You want both if you can get both. 850 for data, 1900 for voice.

Who knew one phone could be such a diverse decision.. Well just to make sure I understood everything correctly (thanks so much to you guys who contributed all the helpful information! Thanks!), and to make sure this info if concluded;
North American would be the best (most features available to the public - even in world travel?) but it comes with a strong price tag.
All others have some weak spots either in the features or just the networks they use.
Correct?
If that is the case, then if anyone finds an updated price or just a good deal on this phone, give a shout out on this thread please! Once again Thanks!

+Kardboard+ 06-12-2009 12:33 AM

Wrong. No matter which version you get, it's the same. There will be one region in the world where it will excel, all others it will be slightly lacking due to slow Internet.

Basically, it all comes down to data. If you have it and you're here, get the NAM version. If you don't have data, it doesn't matter which version. Everything else is the same, camera, multimedia, WiFi, everything. The only difference is speed of data over cell networks and reception.

^Don't forget the possibility of Nokia neglecting the NAM for FW updates, lawlz. Some versions are more equal than others.

StylinRed 06-12-2009 02:01 AM

got my cousin to order me one from nokia.com during the pre-order came with the bt headset

still waiting for it -_-

is shopblt legit??? if ida known about them i probably could have had the phone by now -_-

ALSO Amazon WILL ship the phone to Canada it tells you it won't on products that they won't ship to canada and it passed the n97 through the ordering stages for me (but denied a television i had in my cart) it comes to $786.22 USD to ship the white one to canada (currently less than the black one but also out of stock)

!Aznboi128 06-12-2009 09:48 AM

what i'm afraid of is Rogers announcing it next week....

Not so much neglecting as lagging in FW updates. :( Like my N85 here...hahah

Razr 06-12-2009 01:35 PM

kayceeee 06-12-2009 01:47 PM

likely, Nokia's relationship with Rogers is once again strong and healthy. the success of the N95/E71 and the upcoming 5800, there is nothing that will stop Nokia from releasing more flagships with the carrier. It wont be soon, but dont doubt the phone near xmas

Razr 06-12-2009 05:01 PM

hmm still torn btwn this and the new iphone

seems like the iphone has way better apps...but feels like the n97 is a "real phone" if you know what I mean

StylinRed 06-12-2009 06:22 PM

iphone ur comparin the iphone with this piece of godly technology... -_-

im actually a little disappointed by the n97 its still 5mpx and it doesnt offer HD recording :/

maybe they'll release a n97i :)

Strike007 06-12-2009 11:59 PM

Damn.. So then for a person living in North America but travels every now and then, and doesn't have a data plan but does the usual WiFi surfing quite often.. would NAM still be best? Taking into consideration price too.. Maybe i should buy from another place on the globe? Nobody really wants to lag out when it comes to FW updates.. How bad is that really? I mean how would it affect a person? Sorry for the noob questions.. but my current phone never bothered me with FW updates for example, i never had any issues regarding what version i buy.. or maybe i noobed out on that too lol.. ? Once again, my apologies!

kayceeee 06-13-2009 12:14 AM

Yea same I have those inquiries as well...i use E71 now but don't have much problem regarding the firmware but I do have the nam version as I have a data plan

So for the n97 although its triband 3g there is still a nam version?

I just wanna make sure before I buy it as I don't want to get one that I won't be able to use my data plan here in vancouver.
