Nokia unveils flagship N97 phone http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....de-by-side.jpg Nokia has a new flagship phone. The N97 packs a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio) touchscreen display with tactile feedback and QWERTY keyboard into this sliding communicator with an "always open" window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the "world's most advanced mobile computer." To back up the claim they've dropped in HSDPA and WiFi radios, 32GB of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback. 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass and "DVD quality" video capture at 30fps, too. The specs are certainly impressive, let's see if the S60 5th Edition OS can support it. The N97 will launch with a retail price set at around €550 ($693) excluding subsidies and taxes, phone to ship in H1 2009. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....a_n97_grip.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget...._white_05a.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3241/...25f5e1.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/...3554a3.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3212/...a22eab.jpg?v=0 |
1. It does 16:9 video. The iPhone doesn’t even do video. So, how can you go to a Daft Punk concert and record it to taunt your friends? 2. It has a 5 megapixel camera. The iPhone only has 2, and the quality isn’t even close. The camera also has a dual LED flash, so you can take pictures in the dark where the iPhone can’t. 3. I can type three Facebook status messages on the N97’s nice QWERTY keybord in the time that I can type two on the iPhone. 4. It does copy and paste, so you can copy URLs to send to your friends. The iPhone can’t do that. 5. It has replaceable batteries so you can charge up three batteries and Facebook for days, while the iPhone needs to be hooked back up to the wall for recharging after a few hours. 6. The GPS device does turn-by-turn and has a built in compass, so you’ll get to your parties faster than with the iPhone, which doesn’t have a compass and doesn’t do turn-by-turn. I just came. |
wow. Intense. N97 >>> xperia :S it says release is scheduled around the 2nd quarter of 2009..so is that around June 2009? |
This thing better be 90% metal rather than the shitty plastic they use for the N-Series. Edit: Apparently the keyboard doesn't light up...WTF?! BIG MISTAKE. Edit: I stand corrected, there is a backlight. |
Damn, can't type in the dark... |

haha. If its metal, Its my next phone. |
Reminds me of an HTC.. and whytf does everyone compare everything to the god damn iphone now |
No light up KB? Nooo.. First Nokia that looks good to me XD |
they say its $693 dollars, but when it gets released im sure it'll get jacked up to near $1000-1200 because of popular demand. |
independent store jack up the price. those price indication given by nokia are usually set for NETWORK OPERATORS. anyway. according to the leak list, this phone should be Ivalo. so theres more coming up next year. MWC is in 3-4 months. PS. this phone is HOT!! HOT!! HOT!! |
This phone is competing against Xperia and Touch Diamond Pro. It has a cleaner look but we'll see how it goes with the symbian. Not a big fan of symbian but not sure on touch screen symbian. It looks thin but is it really that thin? I wonder |
its around 14-15mm for a qwerty phone.. yes its thin. and Symbian>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>winMOE. |
NICEEEE... I can probably get this for dirt cheap when it releases... prob around $400-500 or free... time to call my cuz up.. lol |
time to upgrade, finally a replacement that catches my heart for the e71 |
tytn 2 meets 5800 =P? |
I dont like how everyone is going the "copy the iphone" route But those specs are fuckin impressive, im glad they finally got away from QVGA screen res. I dont particularly like touch screens, but if its metal (Which i highly doubt looking back at past N series flagships) then im all over it Even better if it has good speakers and NA 3G BS on pricing though, should be at LEAST double that on release |

my only issue is i was expecting them to have a 8mpx camera but im totttalllly picking it up, id just h8 to see it at Rogers in the fall 09 |
fuck then why even release the n96? |
Xperia just got pwnt |
Why even bother comparin it to the iPhone when it costs 2-3 times as much. Obviously it's gonna be a better phone |
sweet and to think i just about bought an e71 |
not bad but 5mp w/ led flash is so last year its all about 8mp ccd camera w/ xenon flash |
^^^^^ yeah thats what i was hoping for any side by side camaros with the n95? http://www.gsmarena.com/touchscreen_...y-news-694.php GSMArena talks about it and has 2 youtube videos on it |
