i heard it was b/c they have a lot of bacteria in their shell and their tanks or whatever you keep them in will have a lot of bacteria as well, which is not good for little kids that would keep them as pets.

They don't sel it in Vancouver cuz of what GLOW said but they do sell it in Burnaby.

The pet store at Metro has them and I think the one at Brentwood Mall does too.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that the reason not so many stores carry turtles anymore is that they aren't allowed to ship them in to sell. I believe now that most reptiles must have been bred here for a store to be able to sell them. I could be wrong though, but I do know that 2 years ago they were talking about implementing this.

ok.. so instead of creating a new thread.. i'm gonna jack this one :P

so yeah, my dad brought home 3 turtles the other day... they're fairly big. the smallest one has a shell that is at least 3inches in length. just wondering if anyone here also has turtles and would like to share some info on how to take of them. they're red ear sliders btw. one thing i notice is that when i'm feed them food by hand, they go buck wild for it. atm, i'm trying to convince my dad to move the 3 turtles with the arowana that he has, but he doesn't want the turtles to mess up his fish. right now, we have the 3 turtles in one of those huge see-through containers that you can buy from superstore LOL... crappy but do-able.

get a tank around 40ish gal? be prepare when they get bigger aim for a 70ish? dont mix with the arro they ruin the water quality. as for any hardshell turtle it'll be a basking area (platform as a "drying off" area" along with a heating lamp/or just ur average lamp but dont need to to be on all the time.)
if u dont have a basking area, u'll help spread salmonella, and speed up shell rot.

make sure your tank is big enough for 3 turtles as they get quite big. Feed your turtles once every 3 to 4 days. Do not everfeed them. Turtles can go on for atleast 1week and a half without eating. Use a good filter as it save you from the hassel of constant water changing.

your turtle is going to outgrow the tank like crazy. its something like a 90gal for 1 adult turtle. It's better just to make an outdoor pond.
