Cutting weight + tone up

okay, so i need to drop a fair amount of weight haha, and then tone up.

recommendations please.

how and how often i should excercise.
diet would help as well.

information from people that have done the same thing, what has worked for you, would be appreciated.

- cut out all fried food, pop, beer, chips etc.
- eat leaner cuts of meat i.e. chicken breast over thigh or drumstick
- load up on leafy greens and fruits
- cardio as much as possible

i went from 256lbs to 210lbs...

i cut out pop/mcdonalds/basically anything crappy.
instead i ate alot of "clean" foods. lots of fresh produce and appropriate protein servings/protein shakes.
eat about 6-8 small meals a day (depending on what time you wake up and go to bed)
8 hours of sleep a night..
3 days a week wieght training, and the days where i wasnt weight training i was doing cardio (mostly running/rowing) i took sundays off from the gym.

but the BIGGEST thing i think was weighing myself every morning and tracking my prgress.

good luck!
its really mainly in your diet!

t-nation is a juice monkey site lol.

cardio and core, CORE, CORE is your best friend my friend. people always underestimate core or are either uneducated about it. also try to tone up your body overall starting with the larger body parts first (try not to be one of those guys that only work their arms because working larger parts of the body will involve all 3 heads of your deltoids, biceps and triceps anyways).

eating healthy is always good and not eating mcdicks is a no brainer. but as well also keep in mind and if you really want to, you can even try to count your calories as well because you always need a little bit more than usual if you're trying to build muscle mass.

like muscle development, it is aimed towards the typical "juice monkey-ish" gym rat type of person

magazines such as mens health are aimed towards living a healthy lifestyle

2 entirely different crowds of people and markets

Dependind on what time of day you work out/sleep, I find that if you stop eating @ a certain time in the evening, it also helps to lose weight.

I sleep around 10-12. I stop eating when it hits 8pm. If I'm really hungry, I'll eat some fruit or drink a shake and that usually does the trick. Cut out ALL fats where ever possible and keep carbs to a minimum. I found the carb thing hard for me since I love my rice and without adequate starch, I get hungry realllllly quickly. It's good to track your progress (weight) and have goals and stay strict. Are you thinking about joining a gym or something? I recently just signed up @ fitness world..lemme know if you go, we can be work out buddies .

There have been good feedback from the others on the site. But just to share my accomplishments, I'll tell you some points.

1. Eat 5-6 small meals a day, Make sure they are whole foods! Have a bit of everything! but in small portions (meat, veggies, fruits, fibre)
2. If you are asian, Rice is our bread and butter dont get me wrong. Try to limit your rice to a cup of rice twice a meal during the day.
3. Don't get sucked into using fat loss pills! They help you in a way, but it all comes down to you! If you rely on these you will never get into good eating habits
4. Dont just be on a diet Lift weights! Dont stick to just only doing cardio, Work your whole body! This will help you turn some of your fat into lean muscles!
5. Dont give up, If you commit to it, you will make it! It is all on you, no one is stopping you, no one is helping you! you got to help yourself and believe in yourself!

More of a motivation post but whatever can help you reach your goal! good luck!

You can do some cardio at the gym, but running on a treadmill is boring. A fun way to burn some fat would be to find a fun weekly activity to do. You can try things such as:
- join a recreational floor hockey league
- join a dragon boat team (great exercise, and a great way to meet new friends)
- grouse grind
- indoor rock climbing
- cross country skiing (during the winter)
- etc
