just got myself a set of yokohama Guardex K2 F720.. pretty good in teh snow so far i guess. i decided to test out the tires in my back alley. i got stuck because there was simply too much snow. after 20mins of effort, i managed to get the car out then as i drive i almost swerve in to a ditch because the "tracks" are all messed up...

Another option is to go to the US to buy them. Tire Rack probably has the best select - I just checked and they have some closeout stock starting from $50 for Firestone Winterforce 205/60R15 which is a pretty good deal. They'll also mount and balance for free if you buy the wheels from them as well. I'd suggest picking them up in the US if you can otherwise, you could potentially be waiting for a while to get them. |
yeah i've been SOL finding my tire size locally. advance found what i needed, but they have the ship it out of the US mideast somewhere, but it was $300 cheaper and 1 week faster than what i was quoted locally.

Snow/winters should stay on until the temperature stays above 7C consistantly. |

Bump.
I was about to get the X-Ice 2 this year but I read that they're terrible in deep snow. Ended up with a set of Blizzak WS-70's. What'd you guys get?

Yeah something about how they're optimized for ice and the tradeoff was grip in deeper snow? I guess ice is probably the biggest worry around here though.

I bought General Arctic Climax last winter and never had a chance to really use them. Hopefully, I'll be able to test them out a bit this year.
How many seasons do winter tires usually last?

Depends on how much you drive, that's how long they last.

Too bad there weren't any snow comparisons in that test =(.
And they all performed pretty well identically in the ice rink. So the only real differentiating factors were noise, dry/wet road handling, and responsiveness, which I care very little about compared to snow and ice performance.

Wtf serious? I always thought Continental tires were frickin outrageously expensive! Isn't it always OEM on euro cars?

no man
for example
my size 225 45 17
conti $133
Michi
$146
EDIT my bad
Dunlop $123 a piece USD
Bridgestone $145 USD a piece
couple of my buddies bought COnti ultra all season DWS ranked no.1 in its category, they were super pleased with it as well as fairly reasonable pricing (in fact it was actually fairly cheap for what it is)
IM in love with conti tires, dont think im gonna switch to any other brand.
Tried falken, kumho, mich (expensive) dunlop etc
General was definitely best bang for the buck and i was satisfy with it
however im going to switch to Conti DW its max summer tires and give it a try, ranked top 2 in its class, on par with Mich PS2 max summer except its nearly half the price
a lot of high end euros likes to use Conti tires, porsche for one
max summer testing results http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=120
18" 156 a piece for conti
mich ps2 costs $214 a piece
Pirelli $225 a piece
good year $175 a piece

I'm using Uniroyal Tiger Paw Ice&Snow II's. 88 bucks each through a dealership hookup. I think they're Michelin's value brand?
