| May be selling my GTR...
man this car is just........boring.
I miss a true manual transmission. I've been searching up and down over the past week for a car for me. If only the GTR came in 6MT, then it would be PERFECT. I want the same or better performance, same or better build quality, same or better interior quality, in a MT car. Nothing within the $100K price range can do that. The only way I can find that is to move up into the exotics range...and in this economy, there's no way I'd drop the money on a Ferrari or Lamborghini right now.
What would you suggest? The GR6 tranny is just...way too boring, even in manual mode.

Unfortunately, these dual clutch systems are supposed to be the future of manual transmissions, moving away from the three-pedal arrangement. Disappointing.
Although it's perhaps a step backwards, have you considered the 370Z? IIRC, you have built a 350 already, and the 370Z is rumored to be an incredible car.

My other suggestion would be the ZR1. If it was my money, I'd be going for the ZR-1. Statistically I'm sure the GT-R is a fantastic car, but it seems so... sterile.

Kev | There is no way the ZR-1 would be in consideration. Did you see his criteria?
The ZR-1 may have a manual tranny, but huge down grade in interior quality.
The DeTomaso Pantera is powered by Ford V8, it can easily be modded to go fast.

^ but that shit is ancient. For someone who even considered buying a GTR in the first place he probably wasn't quite inclined to wrenching or having downtime with his ride....
so the only thing that seems to work is a 997 turbo... a slightly used one from 06ish sounds about right...? After depreciation should be just a tad more than the resale value of your 09 GTR?

Lotus Exige, or something of that ilk. Caterham's are definitely NOT sterile.
Conversely, although it is definitely into the exotic price range, the Ford GT is not about to become a depreciating asset anytime soon.

Is Nissan going to be making a 6MT tranny for the GTR? I thought they might do that due to the problems with the existing tranny. If they plan to... just hold out on yours and trade it in for a 6MT.
Berz out.

I can't understand any of your logic, you considered the ZR-1 as a down grade and you are suggesting Pantera, NSX as an upgrade
you are an amazing piece of dirt

to clear up a few confusions...my budget is around $90 to $100K.
GTR is not going to have a manual tranny at all.
NSX is too slow.
I want something I can drive year round...I had 2+ cars for years, but I don't need to being a bachelor and all.
I'm not a fan of the 996 at all. I went to MCL and Weissach today and saw some 997's and 993's...993 turbo is my favorite, but it's not a car I would drive year round. 997 C4S would be nice, but I know I would regret it and rather get a C2S.
997 Turbo even used is still out of my price range...going for about $130K right now.
E9X M3 is boring too. It's wayyyy too civilized...lost the original "M3 edge".
C63 is a lot cheaper, but same thing...auto tranny. Even worse, it's a true automatic (with a torque converter).
Never been a fan of Audi's...too many problems.

^ but then the C63 is absolutely savage to drive (at the press of a button that is):

Who cares if you are doing that in D. It'd do that all day long at the press of a button, try that GTR. You need two hands on the wheel when you are doing that kind of sideways anyway.

Well now... interesting problem, this. I'd stick with owning two cars; the simple fact is that the fun-to-drive quotient is inversely proportional to the practicality quotient, when it comes to sporty cars. Yes, the new M3 sedan and IS-F are fun and whatnot, but they aren't as fun as a Lotus, for the same amount of money (the Lotus being just about the most fun car from a regular manufacturer that you can own for under 100K).
So, I'd concede defeat and continue to own two cars. Buy yourself a nice slightly used Exige or Esprit (or Super 7, as I see there's one on eBay right now) out of the states for somewhere around 40K, and drop another 30K on a minty fresh NAS Land Rover Defender, and enjoy the two best vehicles in their fields. When summer comes along, you'll never find another car that drives like a Lotus, and when the conditions take a turn for the worse, you'll never drive another vehicle as capable as the Rover... all while getting fantastic gas mileage in both vehicles, I might add.
Or, you might take the Rover off-road on one of our many excursions, realize that there's WAY more fun to be had off-road than on, sell the Lotus, dump horrendous amounts of cash on expedition equipment, explore the arctic circle, discover ancient ruins, and become a modern day Indiana Jones, granting yourself lifelong membership in the very exclusive Explorers Club.
In either case, if you have the cash to spend, why compromise your vehicle choice when you can have the best of both worlds?
