As I said in the pothole thread, buy a winter beater already, or be prepared to stay off the roads when the weather is like this.
Insisting to drive a car that's 2" off the ground with 35 series tires on it is just making life suck for you and everyone else who has to be on the roads with you.
Spend 500-1000 bucks an an old 4wd subaru hatch, have it serviced, put snows on it. Be happy. Insure it for 4 months of the at a whole $80 bucks a month. Seriously it saves so much stress.
I've done 4 trips to whistler for work in the last 2 weeks. Snow, ice, whatever. Use the right tool for the job. Or stay home becuase you are making every else's life suck.   | |

I was good until Saturday when i got stuck in my alley.
the snow ripped off my front bumper and after all the shovelling i couldn't figure out why i was still stuck (4 bridgestone Blizzak WS50's and LSD should get me out i thought)....
popped the hood open to take a look behind the rad area and all i see is snow piled up to my tranny mount (EG civic). chipped away at it for a bit to free up my car 
also, the night before when i rained for a bit, i hit a huge slush puddle on Knight/alderbridge area and my right Spoon caliper stopped working for about 20mins!
fun times, but yah, a beater is a good idea now...
ps - my car has about 2 finger gap...

the other day, my brave neighbor decided to take out his teg to go to work, he managed to get out of the garage, and about 15ft down the back alley before getting stuck.
i just got home w/ the highlander, and so parked to the side and decided to help. after examining the situation, it was his catback that was lodged in the pile of snow that built up between the 2 tire treads. pushing forward did nothing, pushing back did nothing, we ended up standing on the sill, and rocked the car side to side to weigh it down. we managed to get traction and push to the end of the block!
and so cuz our houses are directly behind each other, we ended up shovelling down that center part of snow. hope to give my GS a try tommorow., i cleared out as much snow from the back alley between our houses to the end of the alley.
pray the weather helps as well...

sigh. It hurts to hear everything scrap underneath your car/lip/oil pan/splash shield (not so much exhaust stuff because it'll be hot enough to melt it and give it some clearance.

any tips on driving with lowered car?
i find myself having to get the car moving as much as possible and ignore all the scrapping sounds otherwise the damn center of the snow beaches my car and i lose momentum and get stuck. i have winter tires too.

yup..thats what I do too..If the small street is wider. I stick 1 side of the wheels in the middle area..but its very easy to slide around..

Ugh...same problem here. Broke my plastic undertrays on my new Evo :-( I need to get some rally style metal undercovers. Oh yeah, that's the only time I got stuck in the snow...when the middle of my car rode up too far on the snow and my wheels couldn't grab anything.

Quick note!
If you guys get stuck, and cannot get over a stupid patch of BLACK ICE. Use your rubber floormats. It does wonders! My mom taught me that waay back when she heard it on the radio during my elementary school days.
And just the other day, we got Alphamale's fagmag out with the same trick.
Give it a shot if you're absolutely stuck.

it makes me sad everytime i hear the ice banging and scraping against my undercarraige. sometimes it just gets to the point where it's not even about the traction anymore.. we just don't have the clearance. =/

When driving a lowered car on areas where there's two tire trails but a lot of snow on the middle, you might tear your CV boots. After one winter, I was changing out my winter tires only to notice a shit load of grease on the inside of the rim. After taking a closer look, I found out that both CV boots were torn.

im stuck in my alley also... i tried driving and i ripped my oil pan cover... any idea how much a piece of that thing cost for a 2000 celica? freak im choked... damn low cars! look so good.. but cant drive in the snow | |

Lowered 87 rx7 fc, i gave up after 2 days bought a tercel with winter tires already on it for $900, been beating the shit out of it since!  and the fc is in the garage for the winter.  | |
