I believe in god, but not the way the bible describes god.
I think the bible had good intentions, but it's been twisted by man for too many generations, and no longer completely relevant to today's life - but for a few sections that could be laid out in 2 pages instead of nearly 1000.
I live my life trying to do good, knowing that generally, good actions will net good results, and poor decisions will net poor results. That's my version of Karma - I don't believe in being reincarnated as another animal based on how you behaved in a previous life. Nor do I believe in Heaven or Hell or any of that mythical bullshit.
We've got very little time to live our lives, make good use of that time.

The existance of life without a greater power in control seems strange. | quite true, my friend. while i may or may not believe in a higher power, i can't say i believe in any rules or regulations to dictate the way i'll live my life. i do what makes me happy. sounds simple right? it's not. in order for me to maintain a happy life, i must be aware of the decisions i'll make and how they may directly or indirectly affect those around me. basically, i use my moral compass, and i try my best to be sure it's on point. having compassion and being honest is key to even simply maintaining sanity in a world that at times seems all too corrupted.
lately, especially, i've been pondering thoughts of higher power, dimensions, and just basically how incredible every living organism/ piece of matter in this entire universe really is and the amazing balance involved. i've come to the conclusion that we, as humans, know very, very little about what is going on around us or even the capabilities of ourselves. just imagine, what would happen if we could use even 50% of the power in our minds? at this very moment, our brains are processing information at a level hundreds of times higher than any computer could.
i've been thinking about dreams and how we can sometimes unconsciously tap into our abilities through them.
here's something that i've been tripping on for the past few weeks:
you know when you have a case of dejavu? i figure it usually occurs when we are remembering a dream we may have had, that's floating around in the back of our mind, of that exact moment. played out exactly as it was in our dreams. you know it's happened to you as well. it's quite common. that's not so weird though, happens all the time, right? so basically, we are seeing glimpses of the future in our dreams, right? so if we are able to see our future, that has to mean that is already destined and that somehow it's all orchestrated. there's no other way to explain it. but, i figure there are also alternate paths we can take. still orchestrated, just the same. but, in turn, directly or indirectly, changing everything for everyone.
so. 6.5 billion people. all with destined paths and alternate paths that can change it all. all being done in a completely organized fashion.
this is just one example, in a plethora, of the truly awesome mechanics of our universe.
if we can't even wrap our minds around this, or any of the other many unexplainable occurrences, how can we for a second begin to think that we are permitted to give a conscious thought of knowing of a higher power, or whether one may or may not exist?

Truly if you look at the wonders, the ones having to do with the Universe, those are actually proof that we're not here due to mere chance. I also understand that given the same evidence and the same situations, you and I will believe different things and that is okay too.
I don't have an issue with that, I hope you understand that, but your reasoning(the two reasons you listen, to be specific) behind why God doesn't exist is ludicrous.
That's like not believing in God because bad things happen in the world or because a priest molests little boys.
You can't really write off the existence of God because of the actions of man.
I can't tell you that I'm without a doubt right and that you are absolutely wrong.. for all I really know, you COULD be right.. but I think you need better reasoning than that to even start making sense.
I can tell you this though.. if God were to come down to earth and reveal It self to the whole world, a thousand years later you would still have many different religions worshiping different god's. |
hard to write anything more then that from an iphone but i have alot of other reasoning behind what i think

wow and here i was thinking this thread was going to turn into shit.
good job guys.
jesus camp was a crazy docu, its such a shame that these people really try and control the government in the states. How does this help humanity? I think christianity is just scraping the bottom of the barrel to stay alive in this day and age. We are leaps and bounds ahead in terms of knowledge and ideology that religion is turning passay.
Religion is sooo huge in this world i dont know if we can fully get over it. We need something HUGE to happen to humanity to reach the next step in our consciousness. What could that something huge be? hrmm

Well, simply put, I've accepted the fact we humans are not smart enough to understand how the universe works, and never will be. Just because our brains weren't designed to be able to do it. I say design, because I'm biased towards God and creation.
I'm not going to change anyone's opinions or gonna give my opinions off as fact, because I can't. But I think there is many theories on this topic. It is quite interesting to discuss and share thoughts, but there will be no conclusion for the time being...

i have a religion, i believe in myself the people around me and maybe mankind, if we just all had the same religion as i did things would get along fine.
when i need a crutch to get me through a bad day, i don't turn to god or some bullshit, i turn to myself, or the people around me.
god never helped me one day in my life, and i doubt he ever will.
i know god doesnt exist, because if he did, the devil would, and i KNOW the devil doesnt exist, so by default god doesn't exist either. i'm sure the devil would have answered many of my calls to him, i mean, c'mon i offered him my soul, NOTHING...
i mean, hey if my soul is too good for the devil, im probably gonna go to heaven anyways right? hahaha.
when i'm on my death bed, or laying in the middle of the streets bleeding to death cuz i got shot outside atlantis, or some shit, i'll believe in whatever makes me feel better at the time, but now a nice bowl of pho and some porno would fulfill that "better".

I come from a Christian family. They are all into going to church and dedicating time for God. I am not big on any of this. I don't believe in God and I don't believe in anything but myself. I think religion is interesting but I can't sit down and listen to a Christian try to defend his/her religion because there is simply too much bs in the bible.

in all different religions, there is a belief of a higher power, though his/her form may be all different.
so in answering, i believe there is a god, a higher power.
however i dont like how some religions go out to convert ppl from their own religions. its one thing to spread the word, but its another to force it upon others.

Religion is, without a doubt, a lie.
God is a subject that does fascinate me. "God" is such a misleading word. You cannot view "God" as a being, nor as anything with emotions. Too often in supposed holy books, people assign emotions to what is supposed to be an omnipotent being.
I view any "God" as simply the engine behind existance. In fact, "God" is probably all life in the universe, as without life to observe the universe, the universe would not have a point to exist.
Much like nature, where we find that certain life cannot live without other certain life, perhaps we can look at the universe and the hidden mechanics behind existance the same way. Nothing would exist without someone to observe it, and life is just one short series of brief blips of consciousness, meant to be enjoyed as much as possible before you fizzle out.
It's beyond our comprehension at this time, and instead we will in things we don't understand with "god" and blah blah blah, and it usually ends up with division between human beings, violence, and mass murder in the name of God, Allah, JibbaJabba, or whatever.
Brainwashed sheep.
