Sports Action NHL Bets

Anyone play regularly?

I've been betting on a regular basis for about a month. I'm up about $1500 bucks. I got a good win on my very first ticket and have been playing on house money ever since.

I searched RS but couldn't find a Sports Action thread so I thought why not, maybe we can share some picks and get some insights. Last night on Oddset I had the two following tickets for Wins:

Montreal over Florida
San Jose over Dallas
Calgary over Minnesota
Colorado over Nashville
Odds 7.93 X $40.00 = $317.20

Calgary over Minnesota
Colorado over Nashville
Odds 3.33 x $40.00 = $133.20

Total of both tickets $450.40

My picks tonight for December 30th:
Washington over Buffalo @ 1.90
Chicago over Detroit @ 2.15
Edmonton over Ottawa @ 1.85
Philiadelphia over Vancouver @ 1.90
Odds 14.36 x $40.00 = a possible payout of $574.40

Ovechkin is on fire and the captials are on a good run, the Sabres home record isn't the greatest so I went with Washington who have won 8 of their last 9.

Chicago is on a 9 game win streak, Detroit's playing Ty Conklin over Osgood because of a groin issue, also it's not clear if Lidstrom is playing tonight. So to get Chicago at 2.15 odds is a pretty good bet giving the firepower they have.

Edmonton is going for a 4 game win streak, Ottawa's road record is horrible and is the lowest scoring team in the league. Edmonton has only played 1 road game in 12 days so they're pretty fresh, Ottawa on the other hand has played 5 road games in 12 nights, including tonight's.

Philly vs Vancouver was a bit of a tough call, Philly has a few injuries but Vancouver's goaltending isn't always so solid right now. Having a 15-4-4 record since Nov. 11 is pretty good and the fact they haven't lost in Vancouver in 20 years is a good thing too. Jeff Carter is the top goal scorer in the leauge.

I don't think StL is gunna beat New Jersey tonight.

Franjo 12-30-2008 02:00 PM

Yeah I decided to stay away from that game tonight. I don't try to stack more then 4 games on a ticket. I have won a few 5 and 6 game sets though, but I bet a bit less on those. You usually make it back in the extra odds with the extra games.

With teams like Boston and San Jose lighting it up, it makes it relatively easy to bet on. You can bet a 2 game set with a higher wager, then adding in another ticket with the same original bets plus a couple of more games added to make more on top. So if you win on the first one you make back your money from losing the 2nd ticket. If you win both like I did above then all is good :D

A system I also use is picking the most likely "gimmie" games, and then picking 1 shootout game. The odds are over 5.5 for shootouts so the payout is worth it. I won over $400 dollars on one of those tickets on a 10 dollar bet. Then I use the winnings and pick the gimmies and 1 shootout. Even if you lose, through time you will pick a correct shootout and win good. I usually pick the Rangers since they've gone into shootouts the most

ChaKo 12-30-2008 02:08 PM

you inspired me to go:
washington > buffalo
devils > blues
chicago > detroit
edmonton > ottawa
but for some reason, my account failed to approve online and i'm too lazy to go out and buy a ticket before the deadline. i don't feel comfortable betting against my home team and the canucks are always a tough call this season, especially now that they're pumped with sundins arrival.

Franjo 12-30-2008 02:18 PM

Oh you played on BCLC, I play there as well. You have to call the number to verify who you are, once you do you're good to play. They do that to everyone, or so the lady told me on the phone. I had to go through that.

It's pretty sweet to bet on there I must admit, saves time from going to the store. You can have up to $9999.99 in your online wallet, and the fact that I linked my savings account so I can transfer winnings directly to my account without leaving my house is awesome.

Also the ability to cancel a ticket is a nice feature. As long as any games haven't started you can cancel it and right away the money spent goes back to your online wallet. So if you bet on a game, and some news closer to game time comes out such as who's playing, who isn't you can cancel it.

I had to do that recently, I picked Toronto to Win over the Islanders, read later in the day that DiPietro was back in net, I immediately cancelled that ticket and repicked. Sure enough the Islanders ended there 13 game losing streak and beat Toronto that night.

I took STL for the +1.5 tonight.
NYI + 1.5 vs PHX
CBS +0.5 vs CRD
PHI +0.5 vs ANA

$20 pays $160

RRxtar 01-02-2009 08:14 PM

can you have more than 1 game going at BCLC.com? say you bet $20 on 6 games for a significant payout. can you also place a second bet of $20 on only 2 games that will more than likely be correct picks to cover your potental losses if your big bet goes bad?

i guess i could always run to the store for a game, but im lazy.

the_rickster 01-03-2009 10:21 AM

Yes. When it goes to shootout, that is a tie.

McDick 01-03-2009 03:53 PM

I bet on
Arizona over Atlanta (Football)
Washington over NY Rangers
Phily over LA
2.30 x 1.85 x 1.70 x $50 bet = $361.68

I won Football Sports Action Toto 3 weeks ago.. the ticket worth over $1800. I am a bit of a sports gambler. Also, I have an account with PartyBets, so I can bet big on single games. PartyBets offers much better odds than Sports Action and there is NO tie.

SumAznGuy 01-03-2009 09:43 PM

I don't know much about football or basketball so I don't bet on those.

Here are the hockey numbers for sunday January 4.

Fla at MON 2.5 5.45 1.5 H 1.5 5.5
OTT at NJ 2.35 5.6 1.55 H 0.5 5,5
TB at ATL 1.9 5.4 1.9 H 0.5 5.5
CAL at CHI 2.15 5.6 1.65 H 0.5 5.5

invader 01-04-2009 05:25 PM

i bet on Calgary to beat Chicago because Kane is out with an injury, looks like im going to lose there, its 4-2 in the 3rd :(

RRxtar 01-04-2009 05:53 PM

if detroit would have won without going to OT yesterday i would have had a 9X payout on my bet.

Franjo 01-06-2009 02:46 PM

Today's Games

BOS over MIN
BUFF over OTT
Im risking for ATL to beat PITTS
CHICAGO OVER PHX
WAS over PHIL

invader 01-06-2009 09:01 PM

Pit won, even tho they were on a losing streak. So since you got that one wrong, did you lose money?

He lost on that game and the Wash game since it is considered a tie because it went to a shootout, and yes he lost his wager.

Thats why you shouldnt play Sportsaction.
Create a sportsbook account.
If you parlayed those games. A tie would not conclude as a loss.
A tie just negates that game and your winnings will be calculated based on the games you won.

Hondaracer 01-07-2009 03:07 PM

Dont let this thread or the OP fool you into thinking SA is easy..

i've been playing for the last 2 years and of maybe 50 plays i MIGHT have 5 wins?

and i'm up on every single team, i have multiple iphone app's that give me pages of analysis on each game going on

and it's still hard as fuck to win

SlySi 01-08-2009 01:09 PM

Florida vs Oklahoma

BCS Championship Game @ Dolphin Stadium - Miami, FL
Over/Under Over +69.5
Florida -6

Liking the over tonight.
Taking the Gators as well.

Looks like its going to be a great game.
Go Gators.

quasi 01-08-2009 01:13 PM

Ya, I've been playing sports action since it came out in the early 90's and over the years I'm down. The odds are not great you'll get better odds and are able to pick single games on any sportbook site.

You can sometimes find some good odds because they set them so far in advance that might not account for some key players getting injured but other then that your getting hosed.

If you are going to play here is a site that will take sports actions odds and compare them with what they should really be at. It will show you where there is value at least mathematically. http://www.prolineplayer.com/

Franjo 01-08-2009 01:17 PM

SA isn't easy. There will obviously be losses and wins. If you win big and are up, take some risks.

Im picking a 6 game pack tonight and risking it, since I won last night on the two hockey games and the Lakers

Boston over Ottawa
Detroit over Dallas
Anahiem over LA
Calgary over NYI
Chicago over Colorado
Florida over Oklahoma
$70.00 for possible payout of $948.50
