Legal liability responsible under the same lease???

My friend is all worry after he co-signed a lease for his girl friend's new car, not money wise but liability wise. He is, of course, financially responsible for the leasing payments if his girl friend can't afford them in the future, but he is afraid he will be found legally responsible for anything that might've caused by his girl friend's driving.

For example, if she runs over pedestrian when driving drunk, she will get her ass sued for sure, but can the plaintiff go after him if the compensation is over what her girl friend's car insurance would cover just because his name is on the lease?

If she misses payments, it will affect his credit too. But if she's on time with her payments for the years to come, he will earn credit points too.

You're liable for the car itself. If she doesn't pay, or there's damage on car when returning the vehicle.

As for insurance portion, it has nothing to do with you. As long as you're not insuring it, and car isn't in your name there's no way for it to ever ding your insurance.

And I really hope she doesn't drive drunk. She might not be insured if she gets in an accident. THEN YOU'RE FUCKED. She could get sued by the victim, then when she's too broke to pay for the car then whoever co-signed is now liable for the whole replacement cost of the car.

Not trying to scare you or anything, but yeah, if you worried about her hitting someone when drunk she probably shouldn't be driving to begin with.
