Whats the deal with Sheriff Cars and Vans?

So i've noticed a couple white vans with the words Sheriff on the back and the van that I always see driving at the same time as me all the way northbound on Knight street in the morning travels at about 65-70km the entire way. I always follow him because he maintains the speed of traffic and drives quiet well in terms of changing lanes to avoid traffic, but I find it ironic that he drives to so fast. At times i've followed him at 75km's and hour.

So im wondering what are the deal with these cops? Or are they not local cops? Licence plate was a BC plate.

Sheriffs department is not like the US.

they are in charge of court security and transportation of inmates from and away from court.

Sometimes they drive like crazy to give the guys in the back a rough ride if they have been acting up.

Berz out.

They escort prisoners to and from court/jail and also provide courtroom security.

You seem to be concerned with their speed and I am going to assume that the speed limit in the area is lower than the figures you stated.

Sherrifs are responsible for the transportation of prisoners, and this also includes ensuring that risk of escape, including escape from a Sherrif vehicle immobilized in a collision, is minimal and this is likely why they go with the flow of traffic even if it is speeding.

They are taking people to court downtown. They always pick up prisoners from the jails at around 6:00 AM.

They are not police officers however, just court protection and court movements.

They are peace officers and the sheriff tranport vans/trucks are considered to be emergency vehicles under the MVA.

it helps if you're a bit flexible and can move your hands to the front to brace.

Ah yes! I stand corrected. I was thinking of the wagon but that is driven by police and not sheriffs. I've never been in an actual Sheriff van.
