LET is pretty easy. You write two short essays, and answer around 10 multiple choice questions based on a short story they provide.

Big Earl I think you're greatly mistaken. The 2.5 gpa is the minimum for you to be considered for admission, it is by no means a guarantee admission if you get 2.5,as a matter of fact, you won't get into commerce with 2.5 gpa unless your supplemental app indicates you're like humanitarian of the years or something. Take last year as an example, avg of 2nd and 3rd year transfer into the bcom program was around a b+ a-, which works out to a gpa of no less than 3.4 or so. Keep in mind this avg is only based on your core avgs and not your electives

After you finish the second year of a Commerce Transfer Program at a BC College, you must meet a minimum overall average of 2.50 (calculated on the last 30 credits of your coursework) and a minimum core average of 2.50 on all your Commerce courses (including ECON 201 and 301 or their equivalents).

Razor: If you are planning to get into UBC i strongly suggest you go talk to an councilor. Once you get to know them and you tell them your plan keep it a process of seeing them once a month. Even thought if you get 65% at minimum average for transfer. They will do whatever they can to get you in. This is call sucking up to the councilor

Selanne_200 - I spoke with the counselor a month ago, she told me that they will only look at the last 10 courses that I have completed including the 4 core courses (ENG, CALC, Micro, Macro) and 6 other BUSM transferable courses. There are others i know who had 2.7-2.9 GPA that got in very easily.

She said if i get an average of 3.0 GPA for my last 10 courses, she doesn't see a problem for me not able to get in. Im currently sitting at 2.56 GPA at Langara.

My last 10 courses that i have includes:

BUSM 1285 -Business Law
MARK 2400 - Advertising
BUSM 2115 - Human Resource
Statistics 1123
Written Communications 1118 –
Math 1119
English 1127
MATH 1171: Calculus I
Microeconomics 1221
Macroeconomics 12201

Big Earl, I’m not sure who you spoke to, but she definitely isn’t helping you with false information. I’m not sure where you got the impression that 2.7-2.9 will get you into second year commerce easily. If you’re serious in transferring, I would suggest you book a time to talk to the counselors at sauder specifically and ask them about historical averages of transfer students.
For a second year transfer, yes they’ll only look at your most recent 30 credits and your core average is calculated based on engl, math, micro and macro econ but keep in mind that second year transfer averages are typically harder because there are usually more students apply for a second year transfer rather than a third, and also emphasis is only placed on 4 basic first year courses as opposed to a third year transfer where you must complete at least 5 of the 7 second year business courses.
Take it from me, if you’re currently sitting at 2.56 GPA at langara, you better plan on doing second year business courses at Langara and work your ass off to bring that GPA up. I’m speaking objectively and I don’t mean to offend you, but you would be dreaming if you think you can get into sauder with anything below a 3.1 or 3.2. I’m speaking from experience and I did not get accepted into second year sauder with a G.P.A of over 3.2 when I applied in 2011

Thanks for the heads up Selanne_200. I'll speak with a counselor at sauders and give you an update about this.

I was mainly talking about third year transfer, since 2nd year is too difficult to get in for most people.

Oh I see, well you should start planning on taking 2 year core courses then, since I noticed none of the other 6 courses correspond to the 2 year core courses. Remember that if you take all 7 instead of 5 out of 7, they’ll be a little bit easier on your transcript. I got into 3rd year with an overall average of 3.22 and core average of 3.37, good luck! If you have any more questions, i can always try to help

Feel free to ask me any questions about transferring into Sauder - I was given early admission into third year commerce just last year with a core average of about 4.0 (last 30 credits). Started off as direct entry to UBC Arts, went to Langara transfer program 2nd year. It's true that a 3.0 Core GPA even for third year will likely not be enough, unless you have an insanely strong personal profile. I highly doubt your friends with a ~2.7 GPA are telling the truth. Either that or your friends really know how to BS Best of luck!

What happens if you drop a course though? Received admission offer, drop 1/7, but have completed the other 6.

You probably want to talk to ubc admission about it. I take it that it wouldn’t pull your gpa down by dropping it so it should be fine but yea I would talk to admission about it first

I'm currently on waitlist for 3 classes (position 3,15,16) for summer 2013. I was wondering what are the odds in me getting in? If for some reason I don't get in (knock on wood), has anyone tried talking to the prof and asking if they can let you in?

^depends on the course, but chances are you'll make at least the one where you're position 3. Just attend classes for the waitlisted ones, talk to the teacher, continue to attend. Remember, there's always a handful who don't pay on time and get kicked, then there are those who forget to renew their position every day.

^Yea, talk to the prof. Some profs care about you showing up even though you're waitlisted rather than your actual position on the waitlist since they can always sign off to override the list anyways

Is being waitlisted over 90 normal for the first year courses in Langara?

Who has experience with this? Should I move on to different courses - but almost all others have at least 40+ as well .. , or it is nothing to worry about and an offer is more likely to show up later on?

Im not sure whether it is because I am too late, I just got registered today.

And to be sure.. is this all I do to be offered? as the Langara website indicates

Login to myLangara
Click on 'Registration'
Click on 'Currently Waitlisted Courses'

Thanks you for whoever helps

jesus....90...
Yeah that's how you confirm your position on the waitlist. The class you're waitlisted for probably has like 100 students and I would surmise that it is psych 1115/soc 1115. I think you may drop down quickly, but as you get closer to top 20, it becomes more painstaking as few and few students drop the class.

90 has 0% of getting in...

I got in a course a week after it started during fall, when i was #24 on the waitlist. Which i had to get the teacher to over ride me to get in.

The best way to avoid it is to work your grades up, since registration time is gpa based

So priority is based on that? Regardless if somebody is wanting to take 60+ credits all the way through?

Also I do not have to renew applying for a new application for the same program every semester right - because I do not want to have be late... if this is the system here lol? Because I got in at April 11 for Summer 2013, but my registration time was April 05 don,t know how that worked

Just means had you applied to langara earlier, and was accepted earlier, you would've had april 05 as your registration time.

no, you don't have to renew every semester, however if you want to change you'll have to go talk to the registrar's office iirc.
