Karate Kid remake. Jackie Chan = Mr. Miyagi, Jaden Smith = Daniel-san
Quote:
Jackie Chan is set to play a new version of beloved karate mentor Mr. Miyagi -- though not necessarily a character named Mr. Miyagi -- in the new remake of 1980s classic The Karate Kid.
Who'd have thought Pat Morita would be a casualty of the remake craze currently consuming Hollywood, but that's exactly what's happening, as the late actor's iconic performance as Mr. Miyagi is getting a makeover for the new Kid, which will star Will Smith's son, Jaden. The film will be directed by Harald Zwart (who???) the man behind the upcoming Steve Martin vehicle The Pink Panther 2.
Variety describes the film thusly:
Set in an exotic Asian locale, the new film will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth (Smith) learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor (Chan)
I'm not an overly nostalgic person, but there are just some things I'd like to remember as they were. This must be the work of Cobra Kai.

i was telling my cousin several weeks ago, that he should make a new karate kid and cast Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and make him the new Mr. Miyagi
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place... and I donīt care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain't about how hard you hit... It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward... how much you can take, and keep moving forward. Thatīs how winning is done. Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. - Rocky Balboa
/wrists... why do they keep destroying movies by remaking them?? Seriously... just leave well enough alone!

OK this looks pretty awesome, or at least not a complete utter failure that I thought it would be. It looks like they really stuck to the original story, which is good.
Shouldn't it be called Kung-Fu Kid though?
My main hope is that this encourages them to release a really good version of the original on Blu-Ray.
