I miss my GTI. I had a 2001 with 2003 special edition rims and front and back Recarro seats. Bang for the buck, that was my favourite car. It was pseudo-japanese, cheap and reliable.

I have one too. While there were a ton of warranty issues (like cracked steering buttons, broken trunk hatch button, and like 30 other warranty repairs) in the first few years which I admit is worse than ANY domestic we have ever owned, nothing major has ever happened that resulted in a crippled car. His car might've been built on a Friday afternoon.

And nothing beats the fun factor of a Euro

.
i'll chime in with my 2 cents here.....the problems with my DD w209...

-Stepper motor failure
-A/C on when ignition is off
-Valve body failure
-SRS light (Airbag Failure)
-Passenger seat failure
- many many minor electrical problems...
-valve cover gasket leaking (both sides)
-CPS sensor failure
-loose steering rack

fixed within the first 2 months of warranty....

-in the process of replacing the valeo radiator to prevent oil/coolant contamination....

But i still love my Merc.

seems like after 1995, mercedes just got bored with cars and started producing crap. only recently since about 2008, did the quality pick up again. however the C class still suffers from electornics and crap interiors as well.

lol...i bitched so much within those two months....MB supplied me with a courtesy car ( Saturn VUE ) which i beat the crap out of for 3 weeks.

Now shes smooth as butter and the 10.2 litre/100 km is not bad either for a uber heavy DD..

I still love my 1997 AMG.... Nothing has gone wrong on it at all over the last 2 years of ownership. Zip nada none.

Oh and it'll be a sad day when someone buys it.....With that said, come and buy it.

Test drove both a 3-series and an A4 back to back, both 2009 models. I felt that the bimmer felt much more substantial as a car. The bimmer had tight, precise steering whereas the Audi had overboosted light steering that felt like my accord.

Depends on what you're looking for. Personally I really like driving my DaimlerChrysler. After a ton of minor problems in the first 4 years (stupid minor things breaking) they finally got it right. In that sense, the car's a bit like Windows XP.

BMWs have incredible handling.
Once, the variable steering assist solenoid broke and I had it disabled altogether and the road feel was out of this world; especially on the highway.

Euro's just handle and feel so much different than other cars. Although reliability is questionable between the Euro brands.

Cuz your a name brand whore and u care about what other people think.
If you bought new it's because you really like driving loaners and the euro coffee they have at the dealerships.
You enjoy supporting companies that are riding coattails of previous successes and have been drunk/stoned for the past 10-12 years churning out garbage with a fancy badge.
There was a study done when rebates were offered to crush old cars to purchase new ones, they discovered that the majority of old cars being put to the crusher were indeed european because they were just too expensive to fix and broke down all the time.

Funny on the VW. Buddy bought a golf and even with coilovers it didn't handle as well as his stock civic.

LOL....i would say run for the first few years of production..... i usually purchase the last production year vehicles as the minor/major bugs have been worked out...

If you really want to purchase in the release year, expect problems...especially with MB...and the downtime is huge....

Work at a Nissan dealer, So i drive lots of them, bored with my maxima, no matter how much money i dumped into it, i was always left with an empty feeling in my stomach everytime i drove a 350z. Drove a 330I once, and stock it out handled my maxima which had almost every suspension mod including coilovers/SFC's. Ever since then, ive always wanted a BMW i love how they drive, the technology etc. Always liked the E39 M5, found a good priced one, and picked it up.

Needless to say I love it, everything i wanted, its an amazing car with a fun factor/practicality which is hard to beat. I drove E55's and while i loved the stupid amounts of torque, nothing can match the 3rd pedal + 6spd manual.

Downfalls:

BMW likes to use HEX/Torx. Nissans never use it, so i had to buy more tools. Not neccesarily bad
BMW Likes to use special service tools, so im forced to go to the dealer for a few things
Any part for a M series bmw is 2x the price of the SAME Non M part.

Honestly, people look at me differantly now that i drive a bmw. People seem less willing to let me in, people try to cut me off in merging lanes all the time, so when i put the hammer down to pass, i get the dirtiest look all the time. Ive heard the "BMW eh, must be compensating comment" kinda annoying after the 5th time you hear it.

Aside from that i love it, speaking in terms of nissans, i honestly dont think i could drive a nissan again, minus the GTR, I think the next car i add to my collection will be a E46 M3 + HPF kit!

I wish it was the love of a car that got me started, but it was a girl. We were living together and needed to get a car, but we wanted something that was classic and classy so we (more like her) settled on an '87 325is, black with black leather interior. Well, like all good things that come to an end, we split but in the end I was able to keep the car.

Now it has been three years and 4 girlfriends later but the car is still with me and to be honest, I think the car is cheaper the girlfriends but then again everyone has their addictions.

Well, I could have gone with another fairly reliable, newer japanese car, but instead, I opted for a euro that has much worse gas milage, that costs more to repair, poorer reliability, 8 years of aging, costs more to maintain, can't really be driven in the snow, and comes stock with a tape player (want CDs? gotta go to the trunk).

I have Jap and US cars but my VW (as a DD) has no competition......zero, ziltch, nada. Also, the aftermarket support is awesome.
