| Aircare Question
Hey guys,
Went to renew my insurance and apparently I have to go through aircare.
I've got an '02 RSX, and I swear I've been through Aircare before with this vehicle a few years ago when I went to renew my insurance before.
When did this 7 year from manufacture rule come into effect? Because I'm pretty sure I did it before this method came into effect.
What were the rules prior to the 'after 7 years' rule?

I went through aircare with my 02 car as well. I think before it was 2 years or something after the manufacture year.

Could've just went to the air care website http://www.aircare.ca/newspubs-wn-news.php
Prior to this new rule, it was every 2 years.

Okay my next question is, I my car went through Aircare in 2006. Do I still need to have it done?
This really annoys me and it seems like a cash grab, as I will have had it done 3 times within 7 years.
So even if you had yours done several times within the last 7 years it still needs to get done?

Any car that is an 2002 that hasn't had aircare in the last 2 years will need aircare in 2009 before you can buy insurance on it, or renew.
However, if you have done aircare in the last year or two, then you might not need it, depending on which day the airacare will expire.
Ask any autoplan guy to look up the aircare expiry date for you. You can give them your license plate number or your registration number.

aircare is every 2 years for cars between 91 or so and 2002. and every year for older cars.
yes you have to do it this year. and every 2 years from on in.

what sucks is the ODB II testing for newer cars
id be tempted to roll up with an off road H pipe and my o2 sensors turned off, but as soon as they plug in to my car it would be an instant fail |

A few questions for all those who has a 02+ vechicle that's gone thru aircare recently.
1.) Do they do a visual to see if there is a cat?
2.) Would they inspect if you have a aftermarket exhaust?
My understanding is that they plug in to your OBDII and no codes you pass.
TIA

Yes, they do a visual inspection to see if you have a cat.
They've inspected me with aftermarket exhaust many, many times... on many different cars. Some with side pipes and no mufflers
If your car is OBD2 (ie 96 or newer) they simply plug into your service port to see if there are any pending or set codes... so if you have a check engine light, don't bother going because you will NOT pass, even if you've removed the light bulb
There is no driving test, if all the OBD2 monitors are set. If you have recently reset the computer (by disconnecting the battery)... then the monitors will likely NOT be all set... and at their discretion, you may receive a short driving test. It is not like the older cars get... not at all. Try 15 seconds, quick accelerate and stop, that's it.

I have a 2002 car too went to through Aircare in 2005. They used to have 3-year new vehicle exempt that's why aircare was required in 2005. Then they changed it to a 7-year exempt so that's why you need to aircare every two years from 2009 on.

02 cars are a breeze
they plug in the obd2 sensor, check for cat, if no codes, your off
but its the older cars that go through the trouble of going through the dyno

LMAO morrey nissan gave me a beautiful printout of how my car passed aircare with flying colours, even though it smells like gasoline sometimes and theres a hole in the exhaust, at least not in the cat...
I think aircare is going in 2011?

I think aircare is going in 2011? | yes but like everyone else has said it's doubful they would let a cash cow like aircare die... we're probably gonna get hit with something else similar, but it's a question of what? |
