I saw one up close at the Chicago Auto Show on Monday. I walked away very impressed with both the interior and exterior. The interior build quality was definately better than my rental Accord sedan, and way better than a 05 RSX-S that I've driven in the past.

They had an R-spec in black, and "I jizzed in my pants." LOL.. I can't wait until I get back home to test drive one!

I can't believe I'm seriously considering trading my car in for a 2.0GT 6spd..

So close to perfect. I really hate how they designed the front. Side profile is gorgeous though.

I still find that tiny dip on the rear side window a bit weird. Must of did that in order to not have a blind spot. Wished they did something about it though.

^^ I can't see it handling that badly. RWD, good weight balance, independent suspension all around, LSD optional and tons of space for fat tires is a pretty good combination.

to me a hyundai will always be a hyundai. if this car exceeds expectations I would think it would be a good thing for a company who most true car enthusiasts regard is inferior.

Hyundai at the Abbotsford Automall already has 2. I sat in a 2.0T 6 speed and was pretty impressed. Gonna go back for a test drive after exams. They also had a V6 model with an auto.

That sounds like a version of hell from another car I owned that I don't want to relive.

In the 80's, many people made the former comment about Honda and Toyota. Believe it or not, society and companies evolve. Nothing stays the same.

Most "true" car enthusiasts already know that Hyundai has been beating the competition in many facets including reliability for a few years.

Most "true" car enthusiasts can appreciate a 2.0T, RWD, 6spd, LSD equipped sport coupe priced well below the competition regardless of what kind of clothes it wears.

Most badge-whore, armchair reviewers are still living in the 80's.

Get a fucking clue.

Their benchmark for the Genesis coupe was the E46 BMW M3.

Being the afacionado (?) that I am I went to test drive it.

And I love that thing. LOVE LOVE LOVE XOXOXO.

Glitches are there of course at such price:

Gear shifter feels plasticky for throw. I never missed a shift the whole way but it just feels plasticky....like shifter on a cheap Korean car should....oh wait.
Interior has rattle AT NEW CAR on A pillars
4B11 could be more refined...Ticking away at idle...Mitsubishi step your game up!
That floating revs make smooth shifting actually difficult (it's a car that demands you to shift slower....that sort of kills the mood)
Steering wheel has no telescopic adjustment so the fit would be a case-by-case basis.
Headroom in the rear seat is problematic if you are taller than 5'5"

Good things. Oh man this list is going to be long:
Excellent traction - the sales man was new and we totally hit that TCS off button and mash the throttle. Even without LSD the car is able to launch itself out of corner with much grace and very little drama - with much enthusiasm the tires still hold on to the road despite the tires being Bridgestone RE92s.
Very very sorted suspension - the car corners basically flat. If I don't tell you you'd think it's running on coilovers. But the shocks and springs take up the railroad track like nothing. The balance is going for the slight understeering at limit with 4 people (never really pushed that hard but the balance of the car seems to be tuned to understeer)
The NVH is kept at such a low level that it beats the crap out of the MZ6 2.3MZR I drove there in. It kept the vibration minimal while delivering exciting exhaust note.
Turbo lag is kept to a minimum but I don't know if that's a good thing. With my daily driver a 4WD Mitsubishi with 2 turbos I sort of got spoiled by the sudden kick in the back when turbo comes in (picture fast and furious hitting nitros kind of face, on my face) the stock 4B11 setup is very subtle for boost you can barely hear the BOV. I'm suspecting that the boost is kept at a very low level.
Rear seats - I can't believe the amount of legroom it maintained for the back passenger when my 6ft friend was driving. But headroom is an issue (see bad things)
Steering feels heavy - European car style heavy. But the sensitivity at limit could be improved - but then we were on BS RE92 so I would think that would improve with better tires equipped.
Seats - those seat would feel right at home installed on a 50K car. They are that good. premium package has the exact same seat with power and heat.

Overall I really really adore the packaging of the car. It's just no non-sense fun toy kick in the pants fun every time you drive the car. It reminds us of why the Nissan 240SX was so popular as a platform. The Genesis Coupe brings back the Z approach - sure it might look like it's copies of other cars in many ways but the recipe is just right. With that pricing I would say we have a true winrar that was absent for at least a decade.

Looking forward to the used models pricing to come down so I can get my grubby hands on one....

Infiniti is Nissan. I take a Genesis over a G37 and have money left over for mods. And a warranty that exceeds Nissan/ Infiniti.
