I hate to lose, but I also hate to be a prick. It's not like I was bad either. I'm a okayest goalie out there!
Really though, I got the call on sunday that I made the team. But I also strained my groin that night, and now I'm out for two weeks. That gives me some time to figure out what to do.
I'm with you.
It's only hockey, and there will always be a crease waiting for you somewhere. |

Sometimes it's not about how good or bad you played but how your skill set meshes with the team. Also your attitude on ice and in the change room. Been on teams that picked a lesser skilled player based off of team play and attitude as the better player only cared about his Goals column.

I love my new glove.
It has a few more puck marks on it now.
I'm thinking of going with some padskinz for my blocker in the hopes that they match a little better.
They have some good looks there. My blocker is in great condition, but it's all black.
This could be a good solution.
she's not this pretty anymore. |

Also, is anyone interested in a set of Vaughn vintage 34+1 pads and hands?
After using Brians smart straps, I just can't accept the leather straps anymore. They feel archaic on my legs. But the pads themselves are great. If you're a Vaughn guy, you'll feel right at home in these.
The blocker, is a blocker. It stops pucks well. Also in great condition like the rest of the gear.
The glove is the whole reason why I bought this set. It's a clone of the old T5500 which (imho) has the best feeling break in history. Gel palm pad, and capable of a high speed fap, this glove is mint. I considered changing the color, but that would be a waste of the sick vintage brown.
I'm asking $800 for the set, giving myself a little bit of wiggle room in the negotiations.
You know how to reach me. |

^ Why you gotta be so tall lol
Off topic- I got quoted for some work at THS so don't say go there, but...........
I'm looking to sew my set of GForm knee pads (the padding is separating from the neoprene sleve) into the knees of my Bauer Supreme knee pads. I was going to head out to some shoe repair places locally to see if they could do it.
So before I inevitably head to Cecil, any of you guys get similar work done? If so, where and how much did it set you back?
TIA

Me, tall? Really?
Why thank you. I've never felt big in my 5'11" frame. Maybe the guys I'm playing with are too big?
For your modifications, I've had Cecil do similar work, and it was around $20.
Sewing the G-form into separate knee pads is a good idea. It's also a good idea to grab Cecil a starbucks or something. He's done mods for me for free, because I brought him a Cappucino. He's such a good dude.
On a side note, I'm thinking that I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a new set of Passau knees. I have the gen 1 and they're great. But after a couple of years, they're packing it in.
I'm thinking of the second gen Passau. They have the same overall design, but a few revisions that they learned from the gen 1.
But $120 for knee pads is steep..... that cuts into my sexy composite Bauer stick budget.
Good thing I'm still injured. I have time to modify my gear, and get my damn new glove set up.

If we ever shook hands after a game I'd have to look up at you to say "good game" so yeah you're tall to me lol
Sounds good re: Cecil. I just got an email back and the cost is a bit more than $20, but to get exactly what I want it's not a big difference.
I think I decided on putting the GForm pad in the knee, then asking to stitch some covered foam on top of that to make it nice and soft/supple against the knee.
As for the Passaus- prior to making the mods I thought about moving on from the Bauers and going with Passau. Though I read more than a couple of people still having issues with them slipping down, meaning that if I bought them I'd need to drop a bit more money to mod them again.

Chirping is the foundation of hockey.
On to other, gear related business, I have a daughter who plays in net. Now that she is the starting tender for her team, I thought it wise to purchase proper goalie skates. Off to the hockey shop we went, to see what the guys had to offer.
We came out with the new Reactor skates, with the Lundquist skate strap.
It took her about 8 minutes, and one nasty fall on her butt, before she was comfortable skating in them. She played her first game to a 10-4 win. But even better than that, is she is moving better in the crease. Her skating is getting stronger, and as ballpeenhammer can attest to, her B'fly is a thing of beauty.
Being a goalie parent, my bank account has been drained. I have a set of new-to-us red McKenney goalie pants on hold. And a Vaughn V5 C/A to replace the flimsy Eddy C/A the league gave her. She is also running league spec Reebok 7k pads. I would like to swap those out for a Brians wee-sized Subzero and matching blocker.
Of course, that means no money for me to get matching gear.....
I'm like a patchwork quilt out there. |

My new Shark 965 mask arrived.
Haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Stuck at home with a skin break out and infections
It is more snug in the cheeks compared to my Bauer 950. But so far, I'm liking it. A lot lighter as well! And it also comes with a carry bag. |

I love the angles on that thing. It's a true puck deflector.
Take care, and get well soon. One thing that athletes need to be prepared for is down time. During the recovery period in my first major injury, I lost my mind not knowing what to do with myself. Now when I get hurt, it's almost nice. Like a forced vacation. May as well use that time wisely.
We've been pretty goalie centric in this thread. So here's some glove porn for the playas'
Havlat's snake skin Eagles.
They're so ugly, that they're actually sexy.

Thanks! I hear ya. Not being able to play is horrible. Not to mention, I'm still trying to manage my team without being there. Finding a goalie is tough sometimes.
I cant go work out, I cant play hockey... |

^Dang that sucks. Feel better soon!
On a gear-related note:
I cracked and ordered another pair of (custom) kneestax from Denon again for my CCM EFlexes. At first I thought my hip pain was temporary due to not playing in a while, but with a week between games and only playing once a week the pain hasn't really gone away. I think my hips, knees, and ankles will thank me once I strap them on.
If any of you are interested here's the site: https://sites.google.com/site/kneestax/
It looks hokey, but it's all legit. Pretty pricey at almost 50 for a shipped custom set, but I need the extra height and can't afford dem Maltese risers from Passau lol

As long as it doesn't affect your stand up game, the tall knee stack is a nice addition. I added a second stack to my Subs last year, and the ground game felt great. The taller stack felt better and there was a little less wear and tear on the hips, ankles and knees.
But they were thick and sometimes interfered with each other in situations like the VH, and reverse VH (which is a bitch on the hips). I went with a replacement stack from Cecil at THS. He made the stack about 1.5" thick, similar to the SubZero 2 pads. He used two types of foam, one harder piece for the ice side. On the knee side he used a very soft gel type foam. That was the perfect balance for me and I still use them.

Nice how much did that set you back?
I ordered a 1in set with 1/4in HD foam sitting on top of the block, and 3/4in of Denon's softest foam to soften the block. With so much room in my knee area I don't think it'll interfere with anything, but I won't be able to be sure until I actually put them on.
I think there was only 1/2in difference between my CCM block and my old V2 knee block height. Man I guess the small difference was big enough to wreak havoc on my hips :'(
