Back to the tape thing, i like to rip the tape in half and tape the blade in thin strips all the way through. My theory is it gives me a faster rotation on the puck when i shoot:rofl:

Well, its easy to test your theory rather than keeping it a theory....

wrap your stick the way you do, and wrap another or the same stick the recommened way....see if your theory works.

RayBot 02-23-2009 07:32 PM

I don't want to start another thread, since its 'somewhat' related...

...but has anyone here ever tested the speed of your slapshot....or know of a place that can do so??

suprasian 02-23-2009 08:16 PM

i believe you may be able to do that at canlan in northvan
i could be wrong though but they have this room with a net and accuracy markers etc
could have a speed reader too

I know it's probably unrelated, the tape job and the speed of a shot, but I've been doing it for so long, why stop now lol.

Handheld radar detector thingy. Someone stand behind the net crouched as you shoot. IIRC I shot 77 mph.

RayBot 02-25-2009 10:53 AM

^^And how am i supposed to borrow a cop to go behind the net??

SumAznGuy 02-25-2009 10:59 AM

^^^ Tell them there are some street racers on the ice?

RayBot 02-25-2009 11:02 AM

^^ Touche.....i only met a 'few' smart cops...so i am gonna try this out.

With regards to taping your blade.

I cut my tape in half so it takes twice as long to get around the blade. It also creates twice as many ridges which gives a bit more friction. I dunno I can feel the puck better on my stick when I do this.

ah I just read that Kilinim does this too :D

mickz 02-25-2009 03:55 PM

Somebody buy this http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bab/1047935979.html and we'll meet up at Stick and Puck.

Heres my stuff, I have only played ice hockey once, but I am going to go to my friends drop in and such and learn how to skate and stuff.

Helmet: Nike Bauer 5500 w/ FM8500 cage (memory foam is awesome, haven't really worn the cage much but I will when i start ice hockey)

Elbow Pads: Easton X-treme (decent, but will get something more comfortable)

Gloves: Nike Bauer XVI (I love these gloves)

Shoulder Pads: CCM Tack 752 (a bit big so I might get something else to replace it)

Pants: CCM Supra (surprisingly light, and not bulky)

Shin Pads: Nike Bauer Supreme 50 (I simply love these, light w/dry-fit, not bulky, super comfy)

Skates: Nike Bauer Supreme Comp (not worn long enough to break them in)

Rollerblades: Mission Assassins (good blades, kinda expensive but it was the best fit for me)

Shafts/Sticks: Warrior Dolomite Fedorov (love the LIE 4 that it comes with)

m3thods 02-26-2009 01:34 PM

Shafts/Sticks: Broken 1p int. TPS Rubber shaft (around 77 flex), Easton Cyclone... Shafts only because I need to find a P106 composite tapered & non-tapered. P106 is so damn hard to get locally.

If anyone knows similar patterns to P106, please post it here or PM me. I have a feeling I will have to switch curves because finding the blades locally is expensive and difficult..but I don't want to order and have wait time.
Bro let me know if you find them. I would KILL for a tapered wood P106. Kill.

Helmet: Nike Bauer 4500 w/ FM8500 cage

Elbow Pads: RBK 3K

Gloves: Nike Bauer 4-Rolls

Shoulder Pads: Itech 492

Pants: Itech 5500s

Shin Pads: Easton S5s

Skates: NB Supreme Comp SMU

Shafts/Sticks: Dolo 2-piece with wood P88 blade.

v1nce 02-26-2009 02:05 PM

^^ there are tapered vapor xxxx wood at THS. There are 4 LH blades there. price was 29.99. just came back from today.

Selanne_200 02-26-2009 04:45 PM

Just gettin my crap together to start playing goalie but here's what i got so far.

Eagle Sentry Pads
Nike-Bauer X-pulse 6.0 C/A
Vaughn velocity 8400 blocker
RBK 6K catcher
RBK 3k Goal skates

If you're on MSH there's a guy that's been trying to sell their P106 RH Vapor XX blade on there for $35 (US$ I think)

blkgsr 02-27-2009 10:49 AM

most of my equipment is over 5 years old, but it's all bauer with some easton and itech

after i broke my synergy i went back to wood sticks for a while and was pretty happy with them, but they do wear out faster

so i bought the vapour XXXX, it's $$$ but i love it

really? interesting ill hit that up. but at 35 it sounds like its comp? i shouldve specified that im RH lol but thanks v1nce for the heads up

frost91 02-27-2009 12:46 PM

looking into buying a new stick, its been nike bauer xvi or rbk 7k

any opinions on either?
they both are relatively same price, i've never used rbk so i'm kinda iffy

beetea 02-27-2009 01:35 PM

id probably take the 7k over the xvi

RayBot 02-27-2009 03:00 PM

I stopped using RBK ops'.

Had 3, they all had the same problem in common for me.The blades seemed to have damage faster, especially at the toe....even faster than wooden blades/sticks. Gameplay wise, i still don't feel convinced that any of the RBK sticks i have was the best i have ever used. I remember a Jofa/Titan (which now is RBK) stick that i used a few years ago which was an FB wood which was better than any of the RBK ops that i ever owned.

Until i feel convinced otherwise, i am sticking to my TPS.

Hondaracer 02-27-2009 11:02 PM

bought a 195 yesterday go to with my XXXX

mako 02-28-2009 04:03 PM

im a bauer guy but i love my easton sticks, they just feel right

and to support my point, there are numerous nhlers who are sponsored by nbh but choose to use easton sticks
