Not much to report from this sale. Everything was 50% off the sticker price but the gear was pretty low end.

Did they have any store assets like the gear washing machine, or the skate sharpener?
I'm curious what that stuff is worth.

At the last autction, I believe the skate sharpener went for $8Kish.

This was 2 years ago IIRC when Mainland Athletics closed.

The guys there said the store assets were on site but they'll probably end up auctioning them off at a later date.

What products have you guys found to be effective at removing the smell from old hockey equipment?

Haha. You didn't just snap your head back, you grabbed your face like you lost a few chicklets even though you had a bird cage on. :okay:

You playing much this summer? Don't seem to see you playing on KBI much this season.

Not everyone can buy a whole new set of equipment every season. Playing goalie is expensive.

:okay:

Search this thread. It's been asked before.
You can try getting the gear washed. Can't remember the exact name. It was a professional service.

I've tried washing the gear with hot water and soap but the smell came back.

I think Raybot tried oxy clean or some other stuff that you can buy from any sports shop and wash the gear with water. Can't remember if it worked or not.

I agree, but I just recently made the switch from visor to cage (because I lost my front chiclets on a prev. highstick). It was still an involuntary reaction at that stage. Although I see your point.

As for KBI, I sub every now and then. To be honest, for some reason, my heart and passion for hockey isn't as fiery as it used to be; and I don't think I'll ever match my previous pace when we used to play for 2 or 3 teams + pickups on the side totalling at least 4 to 5 times a week.

:(

I use a spray called sportclenz. I hang my equipment to dry and give a couple sprays. I leave it in my dinning room in my apartment as I have no room anywhere else and NOBODY has complained about any smell....

You can buy it at Ice Level Sports in Richmond near Ironwood for $20 i think.

Well worth the buy imo.

!Nhan 06-25-2012 09:54 PM

i use the same thing too. only costs 10 at cyclones on oak lol

UFO 06-25-2012 11:43 PM

Does this stuff take out old smells or just prevent smell from starting?

I hang all my stuff and stick a fan in the gear room overnight. Everything is dry the next morning and stuff never stinks, which never gives me an excuse to buy new gear.

Both. I had old equipment too and it too the the stink right out of it but I would wash all your equipment first before using just in case for pre existing bacteria.
All i do is hang dry it, no fan and it is dry within 24 hrs for me.

JKam 06-26-2012 07:44 AM

I use isopropyl alcohol to spray on my gear before I hang it to dry. No smell on my stuff yet. I just get a big bottle from Walmart for... $5-7? and put on a spray nozzle.

Anybody re-palmed their gloves before?
Cost, where, comments?

BallPeenHammer2 07-06-2012 03:53 PM

^ try asking The hockey shop in Surrey or Cyclone taylors....For the cost of it though, I'd just buy new ones. They're getting so much better and cheaper nowadays.

As for smell....yeah iso alcohol's what I use. I play goalie only in floor/road hockey so my equipment's not as big. I usually rince it down real good with a garden hose and then spray alcohol on it and then hang to dry. Works really well. 5 years now....

On another note: I'm looking for floor/road hockey to join or drop in. Anyone know anywhere looking for a goalie? THANKS

What kind of gloves?

Shops locally have quoted me $80 for parts and labor per pair for nash palms. If it's a pair of Eagles I would send it back to them to do a re-palm since they'll have more palm choices.

Unless it's a super rare or expensive pair of gloves then I would recommend buying new ones instead.

I just picked up a pair of Kris Draper Red Wings Franchises and I'm probably going to gut the pearl mustang and nash gussets in favor of digital and mesh gussets. Now to find a shop that will do digital...

Discontinued Mission Fuel 130

Just got really comfortable with these over the years and I'm dreading the day they'll finally have to be retired

mickz 07-07-2012 10:27 PM

How bad is the damage? You could always patch it if you don't want to do a full repalm.

YzerWIN 07-31-2012 09:00 PM

Heads up for anyone looking to buy some higher end skates for the fall, the Hockey Experts in Sport Chek are having the CCM u+ CL skate for $499! If you are lucky enough to fit in the jr. sizes for CCM (like myself), they have those for $299. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

skiiipi 08-04-2012 11:51 AM

Fyi, sporthek will have the Stealth S19 Hockey stick on sale for $139.99 from aug 8th to aug 13th....stack a 20% team assist coupon on that and U can get a S19 for $111.99 and u get a $20 instant rebate towards another item.
