anyone have any reviews on the power skating course at brittania?

i tried to google where to register and the dates that are open but i cannot seem to find it....

any help would be great!

I took the intermediate course last time it was up (Nov - Dec) but for some reason they don't have any power skating courses up anymore.

As for review, I feel I might have been a little bit out of depth in the intermediate course as I just started skating last Jan. Going into the course, I was good with both my hockey stops, relatively confident on my crossovers, but overall iffy on tight turns and anything to do with backwards. Most of the other people there could do everything and was there to just further hone/master their skills while I was, to some degree, still learning to do some of those things.

Overall though, I still learned a lot and was much more confident in my skating but just wanted to check out the beginner course to see if maybe it was a slower paced class where I could spend more time working on the techniques rather than just running through and learning through brute force.

Bah, I had a spare!
:woot2:

Really though, I prefer composite sticks these days. They're light, and my Bauer has a cool flat faced paddle design that helps in paddle down block situations.

Problem is, they're susceptible to damage from a hard enough shot.
I had to go back to my wood stick that night, and that's when I was sold on composite.

secondly, i don't think base is even a dealer for synthetic tiles. if you google synthetic tiles, you will get some contacts for different companies, and yes they are expensive.
the chick at the front desk said they were a distributor for the tiles. I didn't know any different. No biggie, I'll get around to it.
Maybe today.

picked up a new lid. Bauer re-akt with re-akt cage. best fitting helmet ive ever used. and feels as light or lighter than my old set-up which was easton s19 with bauer 9900 cage.

also picked up a one9. blade feels really nice, but wish it was a grip shaft cause the non-grip is so slippery

this is what I do with "clear" finish shafts... I wet sand the entire shaft with a high grit count sandpaper just enough so that the shaft is silky smooth without taking off any paint. (you can sane more if you want the paint gone). The use the edge of a roll of hockey tape to tack up the CORNERS of the shaft. This gives you a combination of grip and the ability to slide your hand around. I find running hockey tape along the face of the shaft ads too much tackiness.

Or you can just do the hockey tape thing without sanding.. I personally, just don't like the feeling of the clears finishes

I have yet to see her there, but there are others there.... Ronning's daughter isn't bad to look at either!

On a hockey note, cut the stick an inch shorter... My sticks were actually longer than I thought (just under my chin with skates on), so I chopped it.

originalhypa 01-30-2013 09:32 AM

good call, Blue.
It's a bit easier to leave some length on a stick. If it's too long, you can always cut it down. But too many people run a stick that's too long, even defensemen.

Sure it allows longer reach, and a bit more length for a poke, but it negatively affects everything from carrying to the puck to shooting. You're better off going a little short, than a little long, at least from a performance standpoint.

I logged in and noticed the price quotes that you listed. It seems like they have an issue with the customization fee option. whether you get the customization or not, the price stays the same, so i assume they will knock off/refund 15 bucks if you don't get the option. I would go in store to do any ordering though, since there are a few options that aren't available online.

Depends on what you're looking for. Ex. right now many retailers are clearing out their Bauer Vapor Skate stock because the new line is coming out soon. Supreme and Nexus prices are remaining the same since they won't get updated until next year.

Online retailers always have at least 10%-20% off non-MAP items.

Ya know.....
Last season I crashed my ATV and tore up the muscles in my pinky. I also dislocated it, which was the least of my worries. Of course it happened at the end of the season when the most important games were being played.

I missed a week of hockey, then taped it up in my blocker to finish the season. Smashed it a couple of times and it hurt, but it's what we do for the sport.

The off season is enough time to heal.
:D

Take care man.
Also take what I said above tongue in cheek. Stupid people go out with existing injuries. Those are the same lug headed mofos who wake up every morning with pain.

Good luck with your recovery.
