just submitting the form thing for warranty today. should be covered.

lol that was fast... even for easton :D

UFO 03-27-2013 07:19 PM

lol.

I've broken exactly 2 sticks in like 10 years. One was a whip flex stick that broke in half when I went into the boards and me and the other guy fell on it while it was wedged in the boards. The other one broke a foot away from the top when I got tripped up and fell on it.

i need an opinion from you guys...

im in the market for new iceskates.. and im stuck between rbk 11k pump(2010 modeol), 14k pump and the 16k pumps.

what are some pros and cons for these.. and what do you recommend? im using 6k right now and i love how the boot feels on my feet.

personally id go with the 11k skates haha just because its the biggest discount

Nvasion 04-02-2013 06:30 PM

16k to the 11k are about the same price if i bought the 16k online and the 11k in stores(no sizes online)

mickz 04-02-2013 07:03 PM

I'd go for the 11K assuming they have your size. It's got a nicer liner, outsole and boot than the 16K. The difference in stiffness is not as noticeable when moving from a mid-end to top end boot compared to other companies like Bauer.

That's the one I'd go for.
I've been using Rbk goalie gear for almost 3 years now and one thing I've noticed is that they seem to take options away in subsequent years. For example, my old 9000 series pads would retail for about $800, and had lots of nice options. They were replaced by the new numbers (11k,14k,etc) and now for the same price point of $800 you get an inferior pad.

Same goes for the new skates. My 2011 10k skates are far better than the 2013 14k skates. My player helmet is an 8k, and it has the same options as today's 18k.

Imho, go for the new-old stock with the big discounts.

originalhypa 04-03-2013 09:52 AM

Since I'm a gear whore, I may as well post my newest addition.
The Hockey Shop had their sale until the end of March, and I couldn't hold out any longer. On March 31st I walked into the store, and bought one of the last Bauer One100 goalie sticks they had in stock. It's a 26.5" paddle, P38 blade and pretty much exactly what I've been using in the One80 series.

So hawt.
It's made with Innegra which was found to have unbelievable rebound control, and the shape of the stick is unique to Bauer.

That's pretty amazing, 2 in 10 years.

In the past calendar year I've broken:

-2 Warrior Widows
-Warrior Diablo
-Bauer One100
-Bauer x60
-RBK Ai9
-Easton S19
-Easton Mako
-Easton EQ50

9 sticks...fun stuff. They've broken in various ways, from shots to the blade getting stick in the boards. Only paid for about 4-5 due to warranty, but still haha.

Thats nearly a stick a month. You must play a lot of hockey or just have bad luck. Then again warrior and easton sticks are very durable.

UFO, your sticks may not break, but doesn't the shaft get "soft/noodley" on you?

UFO 04-03-2013 08:43 PM

Nope, I like my sticks whippy. I've been using a 65 Base for the last year and it still feels good. Makes my 77's feel too stiff. That, or I don't handle the puck enough to notice shafts softening up.

Reebok takes things away because they don't work. It took them two sticks to realize drilling holes in the shaft won't fly. Took one season to realize the Edge material was a failure. They are doing every player equipment category poorly compared to the competition. Their goalie department is keeping them afloat.

As for the 11K helmet, it is similar to the 8K but it has a new shell. The MSRP on those were the same, give or take 10 bucks.

Anybody have experience with RBK/CCM pro stock pants? I'm considering the 7000's and 520's.

mickz 04-04-2013 12:09 AM

I bought a couple pairs from Hockey Monkey's sale. The 520 is based off an old CCM pant and the 7000 is the old Jofa. Both are two piece pants with a detachable upper and lower with the 520 being a bit beefier but the kidney protection comes up much higher, almost up to my armpits. Neither are overly baggy or bulky pants but they do run a tad wider through the thighs compared to my Tackla 5000 Pros.

I was going to ask the same.

65 flex..damnnnn

Spidey 04-04-2013 08:12 AM

65 flex isn't too bad especially if it is cut down a few inches. I use a 75 and I am 5'10 and 165lbs. I have my stick an inch under my chin on skates, so by then it is about 80-85 flex. I think 80 flex uncut would be my ideal flex.

As I posted earlier in this thread, most people use either too long or stiff of a stick (or both).

UFO 04-04-2013 12:33 PM

I'm 5.8 180. Stick is an inch under my chin on skates.

It's great for wristers and snappers, ok for half slaps. I lose some power on big slappers but I only ever do those during warm-up anyways. I find in games getting the shot off quick is way more valuable than the extra bit of power I can generate.

Haha yeah, true. I played 3-4 times a week so, it makes sense. All my Easton's have broken fairly easily, so I stopped buying them. I think I'm a Warrior guy. I find with any stick that after a few months, the blade gets so soft that I have to buy a new twig.

saiko 04-04-2013 02:49 PM

UFO, the 65 base, is it an intermediate stick? Is the shaft super tiny? I use Bauer and its lowest available flex in SR, 77, but since I'm a midget after I it gets cut, the flex line says roughly 90-100.. I can't stick handle with intermediate shafts but would like a lower flex if possible.

trip 04-04-2013 02:55 PM

its better to buy an INT stick and hot glue an extender if its too short vs cutting a SR shaft

saiko 04-04-2013 02:56 PM

But the shaft width is my concern. It's too narrow to control, imo.

Edit: feels like holding a round circular shaft not a rectangular one.

I think Base offers more flex options than what is stated on their website. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to offer a 70 or even 65 in a senior shaft dimension.

UFO 04-04-2013 02:59 PM

Not super tiny at all, it feels like a Sr. shaft dimension wise. I bought it off a buddy who got it very early on in Base's operations. Base shows they go as low as a 70 in sr. dimensions, but worth inquiring if they can still do a 65 in sr. Of course it all comes down to how long of a stick you use as well, so Base may be your ticket. Their sticks aren't as sexy as the other brands, but they are solid, consistent, and reliable.

I personally find the shaft dimensions between a Bauer sr. and int not that much different.
