I usually take a 1-2 hr nap before going to drop in. Have you gone lately? I'm too busy at work these days to go anymore.

I would so go but its to far for me sadly, why can't something be closer :(

how do you guys wash your gear?
elbow/shins

mickz 06-05-2013 11:33 PM

I actually just washed my shins/elbows/shoulders today and this was my process:

1. Fill bath tub with warm water and add one scoop of oxyclean
2. Soak gear for half an hour
3. Scrub with a brush and rinse with water
4. Air dry outside

for gear that fit in my front load washer, i just throw it in there... my shoulders and elbows fit in fine. gloves too. if it's pretty bad smelling (like gloves can be), i presoak with an antibacterial dish washing detergent in a bucket, and then agitate it with my hands... then rinse, and put it through a normal cycle in the front loader.. comes out super fresh.

i have never washed pants as they have never smelled bad... I have removable lining for my shin guards so those are easy to wash. Honestly, if you air dry all the time, you shouldn't have to wash your gear more than once a year.

murd0c 06-06-2013 09:29 AM

Never toss your gear in the dryer as well

If you'd like to be added to my email list, just pm me your contact info and I'll be happy to add you. I've been on the site long enough to know you're a good dude, which is the main criteria when I organize hockey. My group is a mix of intermediate, and a few superstars, with a couple of newbs for good measure. We joke about how we all have to go to work the next day, so guy's will give a bit in the corners.

Awesome site, thanks for the link.
A goalie buddy of mine was telling me about this, but I never registered. Your link gave me no excuse not to do it now.

I use a front loader, just like Spidey does.
I spent 3 hours on the ice yesterday, and a total of 8 hours since monday, so my gear gets stank. Every 2-3 months I launder my chest protector, knee pads, glove, and a few other things on the steam function in the washer. The gear comes out smelling clean, and other than a little bit of wrinkling on my glove, it's all good. In fact, it makes breaking in a glove a lot easier when it's been washed.

Honestly, I don't have my gear for longer than 18 months so there's no concern about it breaking down long term. If your gear is deteriorating in the washer, you're either buying shitty gear, or the wrong machine settings.

Spidey 06-06-2013 10:03 AM

all this hockey talk makes me wanna get on the ice! lol..

murd0c 06-06-2013 10:35 AM

Sounds good Hypa, shit this is so exciting and moving quick :fuckyea:

I haven't skated in 6 years and I'm so going to suck

Doing some early morning drop in tomorrow, 7:30 at RIC! It's free so, waking up a bit early will be bearable.

TjAlmeida 06-06-2013 04:17 PM

I would be willing to help organize. Does anyone have any connections to people who work at any of the local arena's?

I know some people who work at community centres, but ice is removed from most if not all Ice rinks in Vancouver. If you do plan to organize, it's probably best not to do it on Tues or Thurs nights as there is a dropin (as 6thgear) stated earlier that a few people on here go to.

TjAlmeida 06-06-2013 04:49 PM

Hillcrest on a wednesday night seems doable. 20 skaters is 13 bucks a piece. 269 bucks for an hour, but 1h15m is what i usually find best.

Any input?

!Nhan 06-06-2013 04:49 PM

i've never been to any. bought next ice skates since i converted my old pair and have yet to skate on them. so sad because i've been dying to use them

would be down as long as i don't have any games that night and it's starts at the earliest 10

kristianhay 06-06-2013 04:56 PM

It's not too hard to rent out ice provided there are time slots available. RIC costs are pretty cheap and I've rented ice with just a couple people before.

http://www.richmond.ca/__shared/asse...Rates34953.pdf

Mon-Fri:
6-11PM: $348 for 1.5 hours, divided between 22 people = ~$15 a person
11pm+: $225 for 1.5 hours, divided between 22 people = ~$10 a person

Weekends are cheaper as well.

that sounds pretty good. hillcrest is very nice.. and the best part, it is a 5 min drive from where I live :). Why don't you up the price to 15 and make it 1.5 horus

jack3d 06-06-2013 05:41 PM

i'd be down to play, as well as 2 other friends

TjAlmeida 06-06-2013 05:43 PM

Ok i will call them tmrw and check 1.5 hour prices.

RIC is not bad, but Hillcrest as a facility is a lot nicer.

I will start a thread tmrw morning to gather people's interest and see what dates work best.

I keep hearing about this but I never find any info on their site. So how does it work? like any normal one? Just call in to confirm a spot? I wouldn't mind doing some early ice time again since I drive by RIC on the way to work

kristianhay 06-06-2013 07:45 PM

Haha yeah it's a well kept secret of sorts, but I usually just get to the rink 20-ish minutes early and hop on the ice, no call in.

Interested in trying this out, does the early morning drop in fill up quickly (ie. do you have to call in advance)? Also what is the skill level like?
