You'll join the small number of HNA goalies who have played 2 or more games.

Ever play out in 8 rinks?

I played 4 games as a backup for a Div 4 team in the summer. We started in div 2, and I had pretty good success. By my next game we were in div 3, then div 4. The hockey wasn't very good in the lower divs. For every guy who could skate, there were 3 more who couldn't. Still, it was good, competitive hockey in the lower divs.

Agreed.
The refs know that a goalie has to clear his line of sight, and I think most of them understand and sympathize. As long as we're not hurting anyone, I think it's cool to do what you need to do. That said, working out has really helped me simply push guys out of the way. I was clearing 200+lb dudes away using my glove hand, which left my stick still on the ice. Saved my ass at least once

Saw a leaked pic of the new Ribcor skates. They look pretty sweet.

Any new opinions on the Ribcor stick?
My old 6k is starting to crack, and needs a replacement, stat. I like the look and feel of the new 25k, but for the money there are a lot of options.

Right now I use an 85 flex, with Datsyuk curve. Heading to the hockey shop tomorrow to try a few replacements out.

hypa plays out too.

What type of game do you play? Sniper, clapper from the point, Jousting?
I'm not a big RBK stick person.
As most of you guys know, I love my Bauer sticks.

BallPeenHammer2 11-15-2013 01:47 PM

I like my wood Paul Coffee sticks.

Lets me lay out the boom shots (if I ever play out, which is almost never lol)

I'm a quick release, snap shot from the slot type forward when I'm out there. That's why I wanted to stick with an 85 flex, Datsyuk p38 blade. I'm only about 175lbs these days so the flex is perfect. I love the p38 blade too, as it has a square toe and is almost a full 3" width at the heel.

After trying a few twigs yesterday I went with a 24k p38/85 flex. I wanted the 25k, but they only had 100 flex in that one :(

It' a pretty cool stick.

personally I can get used to any stick... in games i rarely take slappers, just wristers really.. even snap shots are a rarity for me. so really. i just like the rbz because it has a variable flex (not sure if this is a gimmick or not).... but it def has the qualities of a mid kick since I only seem to have consistent slappers with mid kick sticks (and i have a great one with the stage 2).... also the rbzs have basically no taper towards the blade, but there isn't a lag on wristers/snappers like most true mid kick sticks (ie total one)...

RevYouUp 11-17-2013 05:33 PM

+1 Give the CCM RBZ lineup a try orginalhypa. Even the lower end sticks are pretty good.

I haven't used a Ribcor before so can't comment. 20k's are solid though. I've got some fs if you're interested.

Good insight man!
I'm somewhat particular about the curve, but other than that I can use pretty much anything you put in my hands. The only issue is that my shot may not make it to the net. I love how the Ribcors have the "loading zone" marked on the stick. You can really feel the difference an inch above or below that area.

It takes all the guesswork out of it.

Will do man.
I'm heading to the hockey shop to get my goalie skates done for tonight's game, and will have 20 min to kill.

It's a crap shoot.

When I went to the 8Rinks one a few years back, we got a few all-stars and a bunch of beginners. We also had a person in their 70s, so that was interesting. As far as personalities go, I'd say be prepared to sit on the bench for a while with people taking long shifts.

You have to go fairly early to guarantee a spot.

blkgsr 11-20-2013 05:56 PM

ya 8 rinks is the only one with casual hockey, not really interested in stick and puck but might try it out just to be on skates more than once a week and handle the puck

as for 8 rinks, they say you can call in the morning and reserve a spot...

BallPeenHammer2 11-21-2013 12:27 AM

^ Where are you located? What kinda times are you looking for? I'm fairly familiar with drop-ins around the lower mainland.

blkgsr 11-21-2013 07:17 AM

i'm in coquitlam....any time works for me, looking for decent hockey, not a bunch of old guys learning to skate

originalhypa 11-21-2013 09:17 AM

Jump on the highway to Sportsplex in Langley.
Monday and Wednesday are the good days to come out. Lots of great players, including former junior players who play out their broken dreams :D

Also, good hockey. I'm 3rd on the list of backups for those days, mainly because there are so many goalies who want to play those days.

rice cooker 11-21-2013 05:43 PM

i never get why goalies have to reserve a spot, just come. they play for free anyways and most of the time 1 always leave early fucking up the game.

Goalies cant take short shifts, and no goalie is going to want to sit on the bench and watch till someone leaves or gets tired. It just doesn't make sense.

I dunno where you play hockey but i rarely see goalies leaving earlier than usual...they often play till the end.

+1 on sportsplex langley. Its been a long time since ive been out there, but its a good place to play drop-in.

Anybody interested in large pro stock Reebok 7000's in San Jose trim? Or anybody have medium lowers for sale?

m3thods 11-25-2013 06:44 PM

Goalies - have a chance to look at the new Warrior gear? They are pumping out some really innovative stuff. I wonder if they last as long as the other big boys. Removable palms *drooooool*
