Yeah, first time the emergency alert has woke me up. I wonder what the motive was, be interesting to hear as more information becomes available.

westopher 07-25-2022 06:07 AM

It seems like it’s got to be pretty serious. It’s not like people being shot in the lower mainland is a new thing.

68style 07-25-2022 06:19 AM

They ain’t taking any chances after the Nova Scotia thing

Unbelievable the amount of people boohoo’ing on Twitter about getting woken up

JDMDreams 07-25-2022 06:56 AM

I got woken up. At least they did something

Yeah, I'm fine with them waking me up the second interaction that happened near the Red Robin is probably less than 2 km's from my house as the crow flies. I want to be aware of what's going on for sure.

By the sounds of it a guy was going around shooting homeless people, first thing I can think of is I betcha he was robbed over night for the millionth time and snapped and went postal.

68style 07-25-2022 07:52 AM

A lot of people are linking it back to Joe Rogan "joking" about shooting homeless people on his podcast last week

JDMDreams 07-25-2022 08:05 AM

Yea because it’s always got to be something like that that is the trigger rather than the myriad of problems we face in terms of substance abuse, mental health support etc lol..

I was driving and suddenly my car started ringing sirens.
I pulled over thinking there is something wrong with my car, turns out it was this, cuz my phone was connected to my car

Langley has a crazy amount of homeless people, there is camps near the casino, near the overpass, wooded area on 56th, near Langley Kwantlen you'll see tents setup on the sidewalk next to the school, they turned the hotel next to the Langley Home Depot into a what I believe is short term housing that is basically all homeless people.

That's why Clayton gets so many thefts and break-ins, between the homeless meth/crackheads and and the crackheads living in the suites it's like a smorgasbord with all those houses and yards so close together.

(I should clarify not all homeless are meth/crackheads I'm referring to the ones that are doing a lot of the crime)

I've been living outside of BC for a number of years now but how and when did this homeless problem end up in Langley? Pardon my ignorance, but this is news to me. For a second I thought this was Whalley you were talking about.

I've been in Cloverdale for 15 years, it's slowly been getting worse and worse but probably spiralled over the last 5 years.

JDMDreams 07-25-2022 09:30 AM

Hmm good to know I thought Costco Langley was a decent area, opened a TNT there, senior home? Across the street from where the RCMP is.

Homeless population has absolutely exploded since the beginning of covid. Financial factors combined with mental health issues that are way more prevalent after going through that.

Anywhere around there is kind of the epicentre. Costco is only like a 20 minute walk from the bus loop etc. where there seem to be a lot of people always hanging about.

westopher 07-25-2022 09:49 AM

If you see a ton of homeless in your neighbourhood at least you know you have excellent transit options.

I agree with you... though it certainly doesn't help when he says stuff like that out loud given his platform.

Surprisingly in my neighborhood which you could basically walk to the epicentre if the DTES it’s actually pretty low-key in terms of the homeless population. I walk around quite a bit night and day and yea there’s the occasional person in a doorway or somthing. But given the proximity I would have expected much worse

I feel like even the area I’d like main and grandview as you start getting into mount pleasant etc. I see more full blown tent setups etc. than I do in my hood. I feel like the police actually gave a relatively strong presence here so not sure if that’s a deterrent ir what but it’s obviously becoming an epidemic in almost every community

BIC_BAWS 07-25-2022 11:30 AM

According to cop friend, by the time the first alert came out the suspect was already no longer a threat (aka dead). He told me to go back to bed lmaoo

Manic! 07-25-2022 11:39 AM

I don't know about this alert system., I got one alert in Nanaimo at 9:47 A.M. One customer got an alert around 12:10 another go the same alert 20 min later. Both alerts went off in the store.

Langley had homeless for years, i mean which city in BC doesn't have homeless problem?... but maybe more came across after they shutdown Maple Ridge tent city

Manic! 07-25-2022 03:59 PM

I don't know whats going on but I just got an alert at 4:50 and I am in Nanaimo.

StylinRed 07-25-2022 06:54 PM

So it sounds like the alert was issued well after the last person was shot... and that he wasn't targeting transients but the nature of the shootings were transient

Sounds like a bit of a mess

Quote:

Sgt. David Lee said the shootings began overnight, around 12 a.m., six hours before the first emergency alert was issued. The first happened at the Cascade Casino, Creekstone Place around 3 a.m., the bus loop at 5 a.m., and finally, near the Langley Bypass around 5:45 a.m.

IHIT identified the suspect as 28-year-old Jordan Daniel Goggin, and confirmed that he was known to police for “non-criminal contacts.”

Lee said police are still trying to determine if there’s any relation between the suspect and victims, however, the language used in the alert was “that it was transient in nature, not necessarily the people.”
