Another police incident in Burnaby. Broadview park, between Gilmore and Boundary.

Very sad news.

That female RCMP officer died at the park after a guy at that homeless camp in Broadview park stabbed her.

https://bc.ctvnews.ca/rcmp-officer-f...-say-1.6114406

Fatal stabbing.

The courts needs to throw the book at this motherfucker. Cop killer. Second degree murder!

This is a sad one, the officer worked in the mental health unit, only 31 years of age, joined the force in 2019..

It's crazy because my mom doesn't live far from this park, and I grew up in the area right on Laurel St. I was driving her home in the afternoon and noticed that orange North Face tent in the park (it had been there for quite a while), and I wondered who lived in it.

The incident was related to the guy who was living in that very tent.

This orange tent?
This pic was taken in June 2022. Wtf, that must make the entire park so uncomfortable to use if there's someone just camping there all the time.

I was getting gas at the Shell at Willingdon and Canada Way when it went down (11:20-ish) and cops from every direction were headed there at full speed, they weren't much for waiting at the intersection to make sure it was clear. At first I thought it was a big car accident but later figured it must be a shooting considering how fast everyone was going to get there.

Later, I drove by Gilmore/Canada Way around 1pm and there were still a good 30+ cop cars at the park.

I have more faith in the RS beat down crew than the judicial system

WHAT ... seriously, this was your lil sis ... so so sorry man!

Traum 10-18-2022 08:01 PM

I find it extremely sad and ironic that Const. Yang, a member of the Burnaby detachment's mental health and homeless outreach team, became a victim of the very same people she has worked so hard to help. :(

dark0821 10-18-2022 09:32 PM

OH WTF.... I am so sorry.

I don't know what to say, but yet I don't want to keep silent.

So sorry

haha13 10-18-2022 09:36 PM

My condolences to you and your family

Badhobz 10-18-2022 10:18 PM

This is why humanity sucks. Fuck people.

What senseless bullshit this is and the worse part is that fucker isn’t even dead. Other cops shot him but he’s stable in royal Colombian while we lost this treasure of a woman. She’s a mother, A wife, and an officer (according to the news). This is so fucking sad and depressing.

There is no god. No justice in this world.

Alpine 10-18-2022 10:35 PM

I don't know what to say... my condolences and I pray her death is not in vain and will create real change.

Kokujin 10-18-2022 10:48 PM

My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Also like to add that we did have an institution in place for people suffering from mental health issues. It got shut down or reduced in capacity to save money. We have been paying for it a thousand fold. In lives and money. The government of the day failed us. /rant

There's always two side to every story, but now they're talking about possibly opening it up again...............

Pros and cons of institutions like Riverview.

Drove past that tent daily for MONTHS and wondered what was going on. The guy was probably there for no exaggeration 4-5 months in that spot

Edit* so a lot of the articles I’m reading on this are phrasing it like this was some sort of random thing etc. based on both my and Mikes account of this, this guy had been here for literally MONTHS, he’s camping right next to a school. How many interactions did this guy have with police before it led up to this???

This wasn’t a random person in a random incident.

rb 10-19-2022 03:36 AM

Just fucking senseless. The lunatics have taken over this asylum of a province

Qwerty123, sincere condolences for your loss. If there's anything the RS community can do for you or your family, please don't hesitate to reach out

The Producer 10-19-2022 07:32 AM

this was already so shocking - to see the personal connection in this thread is even more devastating. I don't know know you qwerty123, and I really have no words that seem meaningful. please make time to speak with grief counselors if you are able.

this one is going to change public perceptions. support for these groups and their advocates is about to change dramatically. I hope they are preparing this morning for what will happen to them when they become public enemies instead of mostly ignored public nuisances. VPD will not be kind.

inks not even dry on the mayoral elections. going to be a heck of a first week for Ken Sim

mikemhg 10-19-2022 11:24 AM

My friend is one of the officers who responded that morning (he's a transit cop).

He told me the guy lunged with a knife from his tent and started stabbing her without provocation. She managed to upholster and get off a round to his stomach, but she had already sustained numerous critical injuries..

What a terrible way to go out for someone literally trying to help these people on the streets.

As Honda said, that tent and individual was there for MONTHS, people were reporting break-ins into cars and such in the area for the last while since he's been there as well.

Crazy stuff.

The wheels of our justice system are starting to move on this murder case.

37 year old Jongwon Ham is charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of Constable Yang.

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2022/1...by-rcmp-death/ :

A 37-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in Tuesday’s killing of Burnaby RCMP Const. Shaelyn (Tzu-Hsin) Yang.

The BC Prosecution Service confirms that Jongwon Ham has been charged and that he has been remanded in custody.

His next court appearance is set for Nov. 2.

Apparently, this Jongwon guy was wanted on an assault charge stemming from an incident on March 17th.

A warrant for his arrest was issued this past Monday.
