Sorry for your loss qwerty.
On a side note, when you google street view the park, you can see the orange tent.

these days there are no hope for drug addicts. The chemicals in crystal meth is too potent and fries the brain for good, no amount of rehab will bring someone back.

Its not uncommon for a large portion of that group to carry weapons.
When you are surrounded by people on hard drugs, the people that sell them, criminals, etc, theres a good chance you dont trust the person standing next to you.
Add in being paranoid from all your previous life events, and theres your reason to have weapon x on you at all times.
The above event of the police officer disgusts me, and reminds me to be more cautious when i go to work.
We work in alot of the shelters, and its not uncommon to see questionable shit like weapons on roofs, ceiling places, etc
This is my favorite one, in a surrey shelter

Who could have seen this coming? https://globalnews.ca/news/9211482/s...g-jongwon-ham/ Quote:
He was charged in February 2021 with assault and resisting a police officer in connection to an incident in Vancouver. He was released on court ordered conditions.
Following his release from that charge, he was then arrested and charged again in March of 2022 with allegedly assaulting a security guard at the food court in Vancouver’s Harbour Centre.
He was released again, and three warrants have been issued for his arrest since last month alone — the most recent of them issued just Monday.

Even if he gets released after a soft sentence, he wont have it easy on the streets that's for damn sure. Cops have a way of dishing out their own justice that you wont ever hear about.

He came from a different country, then went on a 3 year long violent crime spree without ever being held accountable, ultimately culminating in murdering a police officer. He surely deserves leniency

Canada is too soft on crime. There needs to be harsher sentencing for crimes, especially murder.
How the heck does a machete wielding psycho with a history of assault charges live in a tent in a park for so many months???
Catch and release. The revolving door of our judicial system.
It will be very interesting to see how Crown Counsel proves that this Jongwon fucker committed FIRST degree murder. -that his killing of Constable Yang was premeditated.

Harsher sentencing for any sort of assault would be a good start. And certainly looking an offender's history of violent crimes and escalating sentences accordingly.
I doubt a harsher sentence for murder would have done anything to prevent this scenario, but harsher sentences for his previous offences might have. Quote:

| Murder of a police officer while they are performing their duties is an automatic first degree charge. https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/...ction-231.html

I'm not asking anyone to do this -- I am simply sharing information on the subject: https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory...e-shaelyn-yang
This GFM campaigned "is organized by Shaelyn's and Simone's friends and loved ones." -- you can see the organizers at the bottom of the campaign description. Personally, I have some small reservations in the sense that I am not absolutely certain whether the GFM campaign is legit, but I am leaning towards it being a genuine thing. And if this was a scam, then it absolutely needs to get called out.
Again, RIP Const. Yang.

Sorry if I'm being insensitive and this is a horrible tragedy in any sense of the word.
But why is it nowadays every time someone high profile (or even not so) dies a GFM pops up? What exactly are they looking for money for? You'd think the RCMP would have the funeral taken care of. She'd obviously have good life insurance to take care of any dependents/spouses as well as a federal employee. What other "arrangements" are needed to be taken care of?
Hell if there was a GFM to fund someone to go pull the plug on the POS who stabbed her I'd donate to that.

^ just visited the page and it looks as legit as possible, BCTV links it, so you'd think they've verified and done their homework.
But, I thought about that. She is married, no children. If there were children, you'd think that maybe a bit of $$ to help with their college or something but in this case, I really don't know what a bunch of money will do (or needed by this family). I do want to do something to show my sympathy for the family but don't know what exactly is the most helpful. I wonder if there was some sort of scholarship in her name, I may want to be a part of that ... I don't know exactly.

Light on crime sometimes, like in this case where a drug dealer shot his girlfriend in the head and then tried getting rid of her body and evidence, then he went on vacation
Only got 6years for the murder + 1yr for trying to get rid of the body - 1yr for time served, so 6yrs behind bars
The court considered the death accidental, and considers him an upstanding citizen now
I'm all for rehabilitation, but come on

Maybe I'm completely missing the story. But I'm not so much focused on the weapon carrying, but more wondering why he was never reported or kicked out. Or is just 1 questionable tent in a park a thing now and no one cares or does anything about it?
From what others said, it sounded like he was camping there for months, and not just using that location from time to time as one of his resting spots.

Gofundme's in these situations are really weird to me.
Especially for govt positions...
Her beneficiary, like any govt job, gets twice her annual salary in event of death...
Nevermind their own personal / possible life insurance policies they might have had.
This is not what gofundme's are intended for.
RIP for tragedy, but this is the wrong place for one.

That whole area was blocked off again earlier tonight. Quite a few cruisers stopped in front of both gas stations at intersection of willingdon and Canada way all the way to the Husky near boundary.

When I googled jongwon ham I found a LinkedIn page for a film director in Toronto, thought they just had the same name, but it turns out it's the same guy! Just saw a story about him on the news
Apparently he was falsely accused of SA in Toronto but it took 3yrs to clear his name, and that triggered/increased mental health issues that caused him to live in a tent in a park here in Vancouver

Nobody out crazies asians when they get crazy. This is how China lost over a million dudes in the Korean War. Or how Vietnam won vs the US. Or Japanese resistance in ww2 on Okinawa.
We might look like timid little fucks but underneath lurks utter insanity.

Reading about him has changed my mind about this whole thing, it's terrible across the board.
This is a classic example of a person who had a normal life, was successful, and ended up in a really bad mental state of decline.
Accused of sexual assault that was later dropped (which clearly ruined his career and social network), ends up eventually falling off the edge and on the street.
Tragic story for both the officer, and to a degree, this man.
