Which is why people need to stop thinking they're all hot shit and playing this hypothetical scenario where they kick ass like in the movies. Might end up getting stabbed instead.
This is another variation of road rage where something small started and tempers just escalate, testosterone starts to take over, dreams of Chuck Norris ... and then it ends up like this. Do Sikhs carry a blade as part of their wardrobe? Or was the blade part of his Khalistan activism?

Google is your friend and there's no indication whatsoever the guy used a Kirpan. Lets not try to link the Indian gov't Khalistan propaganda BS to this isolated incident.
235 (1) Every one who commits first degree murder or second degree murder is guilty of an indictable offence and shall be sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Marginal note:Minimum punishment
(2) For the purposes of Part XXIII, the sentence of imprisonment for life prescribed by this section is a minimum punishment.
R.S., c. C-34, s. 2181973-74, c. 38, s. 31974-75-76, c. 105, s. 5
I guess the difference is if you can get parole lol...
Sentence: First -degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
2nd-degree murder sentence: The minimum sentence is life in prison with no parole for 10 years, but sentences can be as long as life in prison without parole for 25 years.
I feel bad for the guy getting stabbed but the brown kid is a first time offender ? Just some kid thinking he’s hardcore and in the heat of the moment did something that will ruin his life forever. One dude is dead, the other guys life is ruined as well. Not to mention all the families impacted.
If you're carrying around a knife like that chances are you're looking for a reason to use it. First time offender or not I hope that POS gets everything coming to him.
That was a terrible situation, from what I've heard it essentially went like this:
-Buddyguy was smoking a joint or vape outside the Starbucks
-Victim told the guy to stop smoking
-Buddyguy said "fuck off"
-Victim and Buddyguy got into an argument to which the victim essentially said "I'll kick your ass"
-Buddyguy said something along the lines of you better hold your kid (to the guy's wife)
-Fight ensues with Buddyguy pulling the knife
To me this is a lesson of sorts. One must always realize you might think a fist fight will be a fair fist fight, however you can't expect the person you're starting that fight with to play by any set of rules. This seems to be a case of fuck around and find out, which unfortunately he did.
I hope Buddyguy rots in a jail cell for 25 years, at the same time people need to learn to just move on sometimes. So many of us think we're the main character, not taking into account the level of seriousness some people are around us. Sometimes it's OK to take the loss and move on. Buddyguy doesn't stop vaping or smoking? Fuck it, move on and leave. Even if a knife wasn't pulled, is it worth potentially having your head or the other guy's bounce off the concrete to a possible jail sentence? Furthermore fist fights nowadays with some people don't just end there. Perhaps you get the upper-hand and beat the guy up, it might not be over from there. Vancouver is a small city, you might find yourself months later walking into this guy but now he's with friends, or maybe he's carrying something on him, now you're running for your life.
Ego is a big problem with people nowadays, I've seen things like this happen over the stupidest of complaints. Sometimes the best course of action, especially if you're not in danger or being threatened in any way is to simply move on with your day.
The only type of corruption I can support, is when a blind eye is taken and some prison rules broken on some punk ass.
Some crimes are so bad, I feel jail time really doesn't really do justice.
Just lengthening imprisonment duration doesn't mean much, if someone's already in there for 20-25 years, what's another 5-10 years on top at that point?
IMO, sometimes an "eye for an eye" is OK, depending how bad the crime is.
Like I'm talking about fucked up shit where it's a lot worse than just "simply" stabbing someone to death. Although in this case... I wouldn't mind if this guy got stabbed just so he knows how it feels, before he gets locked up.

Seeing a picture of the victim I know don’t judge a book by it’s cover but I’ve run into enough people who kinda look like this guy who can’t let shit go. Or the type that go out of their way to make a big deal about something kinda as Mike laid out
Not to say he deserved anything close to what he got, but if somone is vaping and you’re going out of your way to confront them? Mind your own business and move on

It's interesting because I had a situation like this happen to me yesterday in fact yesterday morning.
My girlfriend and I rented an AirBNB in Victoria, yesterday morning I was leaving the underground parking spot, in front of me were two empty spots, so rather than going around, I drove straight through them to exit the parkade.
As I'm about to exit the second spot, this old white guy walks over and jumps in front of my car and tries to block me. I put down my window going "WTF?" to which he goes "You shouldn't drive through a spot, you might hit a car" (there were no parked cars around us).
I simply said "You really think I'm trying to ruin my new car and hit another car, by driving through a parking spot, come on".
He got out of the way, and I went on with my day.
Let's be real here though, I'm a bit of a scary looking guy, what if I was a douche like Buddyguy and decided to jump out of my car and get physical with this man? Was trying to stop me from driving through a parking spot worth it for the other guy? If I was in his shoes, I'd pay no word or even attention over something so inconsequential.

Also, why would you start a fight in front of your daughter? Just boggles my mind.
It definitely doesn't take much to trigger someone these days. Shit I've seen people absolutely lose it when someone honks their horn at them even though they were clearly in the wrong. Something as small as that to the wrong person can have some crazy motherfucker trying to pull you out of your car or follow you home.

Tragic situation.
In the video you can see both of them wrestling before the victim got stabbed. If buddyguy gets a good lawyer he'll claim self defense and be out in a couple years. He also has no priors so that'll work in his favor as well.
^That's what I was thinking as well. I really hope the victim wasn't the person to start the physicality first, if so, Buddyguy is getting off with small time. Police have confirmed he has no other priors as well.
Too many people out here are watching UFC or movies and WAY overestimate their abilities within a street fight. People watch way too many Hollywood movies where guys get punched 20 times in the face and walk away with barely a bruise (like that stupid Fast and Furious movie with The Rock), real life isn't like that.
I'm astounded sometimes how quick I'll see a person want to take it there with someone physically, knowing full well they have no idea what they're doing.
Need a Fight Club, people want an outlet, they want to feel like something matters again or something.
I also notice that there's ZERO accountability in general on the streets nowadays... like for me, I know I did something maybe a bit wrong and someone honks, it rarely happens but if it does I will be like sorry my bad quick wave... but geez I got people pulling out in front of me on an empty road and you honk and they're like throwing the middle fingers up and like FUCK YOU FOR HONKING AT ME BITCH YOU CAN'T TELL ME I'M WRONG type thing. Same for things like the train or just walking, people don't line up or budge or give way on a sidewalk, etc and you can practically feel them vibing outwards waiting for someone to correct them so they can pounce on the moment.
Same thing with buddyguy, he totally was like... yah I'm gonna vape here and fuck your rules. Daddyguy was like "Yah I'm trying to feel big and I'm going to tell you what to do" cuz people LOVE pointing out if someone else is doing something wrong nowadays... and he fuckin lost that bet bigtime. Don't work as well in the real world as it does in the comment section of FB or YouTube.

Well said. At what point does one think starting a fight in front of your kids is a good idea? Eat your pride and move on, much more things at stake than hurt feelings. Different story if say buddyguy attacked his family and he got stabbed protecting them. Of course either way buddy guy is a coward for even thinking fighting a dad and stabbing him in front of his family is remotely OK. [insert] Mental instability argument [insert]

Sad society being created around us.
This! I noticed that recently with some dumbass who was driving the wrong way thru traffic, was furious he got honked at and giving the death stare smh
Anyone who is familiar with Sikh's know's that only hardcore believers carry a Kirpan and if they have a Kirpan they're guaranteed to have a Turban. And if you're carrying a Kirpan I can say with confidence that there is zero chance they would ever hurt someone, these men are beyond holy (edit; at least the ones in Canada).
Almost all younger E. Indians who identify as Sikh's these days are just for show. They'll have the bracelet (Kara) and that's pretty much it.
