A man died in Richmond on Wednesday evening as a result of an assault in a home, police said.

The BC Ambulance Service was called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. PT and arrived to find the man in "severe medical distress."

Several hours spent at the scene trying to revive the man, who was in his twenties, were unsuccessful.

Police were there investigating Thursday night. They said the man died in the residence — in the 6300-block of Swift Avenue, near Number 2 road — after being attacked with a weapon.

It is unclear whether the man was the target of a planned attack, police said, but they believe the killing was not gang-related.

Police would not disclose the weapon used to assault the man.

Several people who were present in the home were taken to the Richmond RCMP detachment for questioning.

Police in Abbotsford are investigating a drive-by shooting in their city last night. They received several 911 calls around 10:30 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Brisbane Ct. and Downes Rd.

They found a home and a car that had been shot up.

No arrests have been made and it's unknown if the home, or people inside, are known to police.

They have pretty much been under police protection the whole time.

from what ive heard what the Bacons did starting quite a while back is pick up debts from other people, esentially customers, then they tax the person who they are collecting the debt with even further and threaten their lives to get payment and any further debt they tack on themselves

seemed to be quite the lucrative business

Its ridiculous how much protection the Bacon brothers and their associates are getting. Theres always atleast one or two police cruisers and a black Suburban or somtimes Expedition parked outside the building where one of them lives. Tempted to snap some photo's.

With all the money involved, I would not be surprised at all if they were in cahoots with them.

Corruption can, and does, happen. Dare I say there is probably more money flowing in B.C. than in Chicago during prohibition? 6 billion was the estimate...

Sure, people might scoff, but you'd think they'd be able to catch them on SOMETHING. Someone is getting paid off, without a doubt.

Under the guise of "protection", when it could very well be that they are merely facilitating the business and keeping the money flowing?

SURREY (NEWS1130) - Surrey RCMP confirm a man in his 20s was shot several times at a home near 127th Street and 67th Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and police have taped off the area for their investigation. RCMP say the shooting does not appear to be gang-related, but it was likely targeted. Witnesses say a white Honda or Accura was seen leaving the area soon after the shots were fired.

Three other shootings have happened in the area this year. A 22-year-old man was shot near 68A Avenue and 130th Street on March 3, 2009 at around 8 p.m. The victim survived and is known to police. Then, on February 27th there were shots fired around 130th Street and 68th Avenue. No one was hit, but police say the shooting was targeted. On January 26th, Andrew Cilliers was shot dead in the driveway of a home on 131A Street near 62nd Avenue. He was also known to police and said to have had gang connections.
