LOL more money for cops to walk around bars checking out chicks and kicking guys out with a criminal record...what does that accomplish? They'll just party somewhere else on another night.

Maybe do actual police work, undercover investigations, build cases on them and then arrest them with solid evidence.

Problem is that even they build a case that would stick, crown/judges can't get the maximum sentences because the prisons are packed. I think the solution is, as many people have said, to increase sentences; there'd definitely be the whole prison capacity issue at first but in the long run there would be a decrease as the consequences are stiffer - bigger risk vs. reward than there is currently now.

There's all these shootings everywhere, all the time. However, how many times have the cops caught anyone through investigations.

^ never.

same questions as, how many terrorists or bombs have the Airports thwarted, with all their naked body scanners, high tech equipment, increased security and measures? The answer is none.

The government scares the people into giving away more personal freedoms each and everyday in return for bullshit "security"

Like how Mayor Gregor Robertson pledged for more police and a show of force to fight off the gang violence. That aint gonna do nothing. You want to stop the violent drug wars from erupting on public streets? Simple, END PROHIBITION.

Its time the laws are updated to work in favor of todays society, not in favor of the military industrial complex and the corporations that profit off the madness.

Now had he been allowed to drive around in a bullet proof car, he would not have jumped up on the curb endangering the lives of those that may be walking there

What a fool from Alberta. Oblivious to the fact that Granville is crawling with uniformed and plain clothes cops every saturday night. He probably thought people in Vancouver are scared of gangsters and would let him run away. Wrong.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - An early morning shooting in Vancouver has left one man in hospital. The victim is a bouncer at a nightclub downtown. It was shortly after 1 a.m. a man got into an argument with the doorman of the Barcelona Lounge on Granville Street.

At some point the man pulled out a gun and fired several shots, the bouncer was hit in the leg.

Vancouver Police Constable Lindsey Houghton says the suspect is a 32-year-old man from Alberta. "The man in custody is facing numerous weapons, firearms and assault related charges. We could be looking at charges relating from firearms charges all the way up to possibly attempted murder charges. He is known to police."

The victim has non-life threatening injuries.

Houghton is praising the witnesses who chased down and held him until police arrived.

Being from Vancouver, I'm really surprised they even chased him down, especially after the fact he shot someone. He must have just chucked his piece after firing?

I can't believe witnesses chased down a man who was armed and already showed that he was willing to use his gun. Those people are either braver or dumber than I am.

The guy probably has a short life expectancy anyways. I have no sympathy for fellow "gang" or "criminals" killing each other off
