Man in hospital after Maple Ridge shooting
RCMP don’t have a suspect, but say there were multiple witnesses

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – When police arrived at 121st Avenue near 224th Street just before 8 o’clock Sunday night after reports of multiple gun shots, they found a man in the back of a vehicle who had been shot.

He was rushed to hospital by ambulance where he is expected to recover.

RCMP Regional Duty Officer Bryon Massie says the shooting was targeted, but they don’t know much else — including the motive or who is responsible.

“The suspect at this point is unknown, but there are numerous witnesses at the large outdoor scene that spans two to three blocks,” explains Massie.

Part of the problem is officers haven’t been able to speak to the victim because he is being treated for his injuries. What those injuries are, Massie couldn’t say.

While the victim isn’t known to police, little is known about him according to Massie.

The RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the case.

There was also a murder in Surrey a few days ago. Seems like shootings and murders go pretty much unnoticed nowadays.

I'll start caring again when/if innocent bystanders victims get hurt. Until then, let the gangsters kill each other off.

Unfortunately that's not an if statement, but a when statement

We're talking about perhaps 2 incidents at most,3-4 years ago? The ratio is extremely weighted on the gangsters killing gangsters side than it is on the innocent bystanders side.

Shooting in Surrey 148th st and 108 ave in a strip mall

Traffic is blocked in the area according to the news over 17 squad cars.

It's said to be a police involved shooting also involving suspected gangsters

A witness says that an officer shot a guy sitting in his car

Most shootings in BC are gang vs gang, not physco vs public. Our local news stations tend to stay away from glorifying shootings, hence why you don't hear about them as often as in the United States.

As long as they keep killing eachother off and stay away from the common folk, I'll sleep easy at night.

Let's be honest. There is gang war currently going on in Metro Vancouver but the police will not admit it like they did back in '09.

Does anyone think the previous gang war had even stopped? It slowed down a bit on 2010-11, but especially in the last year or so, more and more shootings continue to happen unnoticed or unreported by the media or police. Granted they aren't the "light up a whole restaurant" style shootings we saw years ago. But current shootings are usually still targeted.

More on the richmond shooting + video, it was a ML...

Quote:
Richmond Mounties are continuing to investigate a Thursday night shooting on No. 3 Road, a half block south of Cambie, that left one man in a bullet-riddled vehicle suffering a superficial wound.

Early Friday afternoon, investigators announced they believed the incident wasn't a random attack, on the 4400 block of No. 3 Road.

Around 7 p.m. Thursday, Richmond RCMP were called to the downtown core of the city when witnesses reported multiple shots had been fired near the Water Cube, a fitness and massage facility.

Investigators seemed to be focusing on a silver Mercedes SUV that was parked directly in front of the Water Cube, though images captured by a Black Press photographer don't show any bullet holes.

Aside from the man in the car that avoided serious injury, witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene at the time of the shooting.

Police haven't yet been able to identify the suspect.

If the facility's name rings a bell, that might be because Water Cube Vancouver Health Club has previously been in hot water with city hall.

In a 2011 city hall report, councillors were mulling a business licence suspension of the club, when it operated as the Water Club inside the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport. People were caught smoking on the premises, and "one lady...had been caught wearing inappropriate attire," the report said.

The report also refers to an incident in September of 2010 when allegations were made about sexual activity at the club.

Whether the Water Cube on No. 3 Road is linked to the Water Cube Vancouver Health Club doing business as the Water Club, is unclear.

But this part of the downtown includes other business that have run afoul with city hall, including Millenium Karaoke. The commercial warehouse space also features a billiard hall and an internet cafe.

Richmond RCMP's serious crimes investigators descended on the scene and were interviewing witnesses as they try to piece together what happened.

One man suffered a minor injury that didn't require medical attention.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.

22 homicides in 11 months equals how many homicides per month?
