Painting bumper My brother was on the receiving end of a hit and run. His car was parked and someone hit his rear and though there is no dent, the bumper does need to be re-painted. Today I took the car to a local auto body shop and they quoted 400$. But then I ran into a friend who said that we should be able to do it ourselves by sanding down the paint and spray painting it. Is this a good idea? And if anyone has any tips, Id greatly appreciate it. |
there's chance of paint mismatch Wet Sanding, Spray Paint... Your friend forget to tell you Clear Coasting ? $400 is a reasonable price for repaint whole bumper. You can find somewhere lower around $300. |
i have a feeling that your gonna screw up and then have to get it repainted by the bodyshop because the spray paint you buy probably won't match your car unless its like flat black. |
I went to new west collision about a month ago to get a quote to have my rear bumper re-painted. The price was pretty good, give them a call |
Remember to buy a good paint brush:thumbsup: FTW |
I have done it before, my background in spray painting plastic model helped me a lot. Just remember tho, the spray paint won't be as good as air brush that they're using. Also body shop will paint it in the booth, not in the garage. Make sure you(or bodyshop) are using the OEM factory paint. The colour will mismatch, I gave the color code to Lordco and they mixed the paint to match the color, but it was a bit off. Also the bodyshop I went to, they were cheap and used aftermarket color with mixed paint to match the color code, but it was a bit off. The other bodyshop that I went to, they used the actual factory paint and it was no problem. |
I'm in the same situation, got hit and run and now the rear bumper needs to be repainted. My ICBC deductible is $500 so I'm wondering if I should even bother with ICBC. BTW, if I go to a shop, they'll repaint the whole bumper right? |
I would say take a pic of the bumper then go from their on this thread |
