I know I'm coming off as a jerk but there's a lot of other cars I would have bought than an Rx-8. The negs far outweigh the pros. Horrible gas milage, oil consumption, slow slow slow your boat gently down the stream.. SLOWWWW
Its your money so I have no say what you purchase. Its just that RX-8's are notorious for being one of the worst choices. Honestly, i would have even gone for a Rx-7 if I had to choose a mazda, at least it had a turbo.
Frankly, i think you made a horrible choice but it is what it is..

Maybe after I graduate, my own gift to me. Meanwhile I'll just drool over other RX-8's and tell myself "Some day, some day!"
Thanks for the info though.
People are averaging about 450-500+ kms on highway trips, 300-350 around town, I think, on RX8club. YMMV, of course, especially in winter.
Official specs from Mazda is:
With manual transmission (6MT): City = 12.8L/100km, Highway = 9.2L/100km
With automatic transmission (6AT): City = 13.3L/100km, Highway = 8.9L/100km
The whole fuel economy thing is overblown, honestly. | he can't afford it... Quote:

A chart that someone made for his trips. Some people have managed to average 22mpg and over 300mi, which is ~480km. These are American RX-8's but there shouldn't be much difference with Canadian 8's. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=13404
Please read thread - user anecdotes backed up by logs.
If you drive in a sane manner, such range is perfectly achievable. So, this is why I said RX-8 mileage isn't that bad.
EDIT: Yet another chart.

either make the MS3 slower or make the RX8 faster Quote:

i was actually looking at used rx-8s and was somewhat surprised how much they have depreciated compared to cars in their class i.e s2k, 3fiddyZ.
though the anniversary edition still costs a chunk of change.
was talking to a friend who said the rx-8 in 04-05 year had major recalls. not sure why though. oh, and this car does handle really well

^recalls from engine failure due to oil starvation i believe. also, they use from the factory, and recommended an oil that is too light for the heat it sees.
in a rotary engine, oil isn't just a lubricant, its used to cool the internal components (e-shaft, rotors), so if it is too thin, it will just cook the oil.

I don't care what the charts say. Maybe if they're driving along a perfectly flat highway with no slowing down going a steady 100-110km/h in 6th gear for hours, they might get 450km on a tank... but in all other conditions, it doesn't matter how sane you drive, it drinks gas like crazy.
I drove one for a few months, and it didn't matter how carefully I drove it... in the city, the best I could do was around 300km on a tank.
It's a good looking car and it's a fun car... but the gas consumption is ridiculous.

wow that is pretty bad
out of wat? a 50L tank?
90% city driving with a little high reving once in awhile i manage to get 450km a tank at leasttttttttt
mazda 2.3L gets about the same
thats almost like a small V6 fuel consumption without heaving a leaded foot

you also drive a honda haha. they have always been good on mileage.
rotaries are not the most econimical engine, but they put out a fair amount of power for their size.
only way you'll get really good mileage imo is to have a standalone and a good tune.
the factory tunes are so wasteful to prevent the engine from leaning out too much.

Shouldn't you be busy updating your signature with your newest sticker and license plate frame?
You talk a lot of trash but drive a pretty ricey car, that would get smoked by my "ricey" Mazda 3.
And the end of the day, an RSX and a Mazda 3 are both FWD econoboxes. You don't have much ground to be slagging others.
Learn when to shut your mouth. You don't have to post in EVERY fucking thread with your useless 2 cents.

thats almost like a small V6 fuel consumption without heaving a leaded foot | I don't think comparing mileage per tank makes much sense.
I'm doing about 9-10L/100kms mixed city and highway with a DISI 2.3L. The RX-8 is not far off.
I have driven one RX-8 and although not as quick in a straight line, the handling was sublime.
I'd rather drive a slow car fast, then a fast car slow. Not that the RX-8 is terribly slow, but you get my point.
OP: Beautiful car and better pics please! What options does the 40th anniversary have over the GT?
Kev
