Face it; On paper, the Lakers are stacked, and have been for at least the last 3-4 years...

The truth. I just don't see how they can lose some games against the "non-elite" teams, but then again everyone has "bad games".

I didnt really notice but, when did they change how the standing works?

I always thought that each top team in their division gets 1 2 3 etc

Huh? There are 3 divisions in each conference, and if you win your division you are guaranteed a position in the top 4.

n0ob 04-06-2011 08:59 PM

Lakers lose their 3rd straight as they fall to the Warriors...

liu13 04-06-2011 09:42 PM

like the top 4 teams in the west are spur, la, mavs and okc

I understand the spurs and la being 1st and 2nd respectively, but since the mavs are the same division as the spurs, and okc leads their own division, shouldnt they be the 3rd seed? (even though dallas had the better record)

I pretty sure it was this type of format before.. or I have been watching nhl too much

Divisions don't matter. Only wins-loses counts. Speaking of NHL, they have a really messed up game scheduling system. Canucks play their own division 5-6 times a season? Wtf? No shit they are owning the standings.. None of the teams in the NW division made it to playoffs... I like watching the Canucks, just saying that the NHL system is messed up.

^lol. it really is, but I guess there is a lot of team on east coast, sp change the boundary and make it a fair 15 team conference.

Hmm going back to the division thing, I recall when they expanded the 2 divisions into 3 divisions, and they had a sixth seed team, which had a better record than the 3rd seed team. But that third seed team was only considered 3rd because they led their division..

I dont know no more, probably just pulling things out of my ass -_________-

You really shouldn't state things in such a manner as though you know what you are talking about when in fact you really don't.

I'll try to make it a bit more clear for you guys with examples:

Each division champion is guaranteed a top 4 seed. So that takes up 3 out of the 4 spots. The 4th spot goes to the team with the best record, not including the 3 division champions.

Therefore, it is impossible to have 3 teams from the same division in the top 4.

Let's say these are what the standings look like:

Southwest:
Spurs 82-0
Mavs 81-1
Hornets 80-2

Pacific:
Lakers 5-75
Suns 4-76
Warriors 3-77

Northwest:
Thunder 80-2
Nuggets 70-12
Blazers 69-13

This is would the Western Conference seedings would look like:

1) Spurs (81-0)*Division Champs
2) Mavs (81-1)
3) Thunder (80-2)*Division Champs
4) Lakers (5-75)*Division Champs

5) Hornets (80-2)
6) Nuggets (70-12)
7) Blazers (69-13)
8) Suns (4-76)

Do you understand this now? Division champion DOES matter. In this scenario, I have the Lakers with a horrible record seeded at 4th, simply because they are division champions. The teams in spots 5 to 8 all have much better records than them, but, in this scenario, the Lakers would get the 4th spot despite what there record is, simply because they are division champions.

Every team Plays their division rivals 5-6 times. I guess it just builds up rivalries. Remember when the nw was the hardest divsion to play in? Ie. Sakic, forsberg era
Still, Canucks will end the season with a double digit win for the presidents trophy, more than justifies playing in a now "easy division".

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP)—The mother of Miami Heat basketball star LeBron James(notes) was arrested by Miami Beach police after she reportedly assaulted a valet worker because it was taking too long to have her car delivered.

Police said Gloria James had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were bloodshot when officers arrived at the hotel about 4:47 a.m. Thursday. She was released with a promise to appear on charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct.

“It’s a sensitive subject,” LeBron James said after the Heat practiced Thursday afternoon. “It’s a personal matter. It’s being taken care of.”

Police said several witnesses supported valet worker Sorel Rockfeller’s account of the alleged assault. LeBron James said people are helping his mother with the situation, and that he was not at the hotel with her early Thursday.

“You have to move forward,” the NBA’s two-time reigning MVP said. “It is my life and there’s certain things you have to deal with. You try not to let it be a distraction. I have a job to do, still.”

Gloria James pleaded no contest to DUI and other charges in 2006. It’s unclear if she has retained an attorney.
From Yahoo Sports.. lol.

wasabisashimi 04-07-2011 12:42 PM

wow man, bulls are for fckin real, watchin the celts bulls game right now and whoever said Rose is the only offensive threat on that team, sorry man they're an all around good fcking team...

i honestly, like i knew they locked the east division down statistically but never thought of them as a serious contender for the east championship until now that i'm watching them play the Celts...

i guess i been subconsciously Bull hating a little bit ever since they let my main man Ben Gordo go, still very bitter about that, now he's rotting in detroit..... do yall remember the 30 ppg he averaged in that epic playoff series against the Celts the other year, fck that was a dope series, best i seen in years, i mean shit they were a pretty good contender even back then... i think now they are doing a damn good job of scaring the shit out the rest of the top tier teams

Qmx323 04-07-2011 06:38 PM

Chi-town rocked the fuck out of the Celts.

Not really racist! 04-07-2011 09:04 PM

Move over Tony Parker! Back in December, basketball fans were stunned when Pheonix Suns star Steve Nash filed for divorce from his wife just a day after she had a baby. Since then new information has surface about the separation.

Nash married Alejandra Amarilla in 2005 but broke up a few months before the baby was born after rumors of cheating allegations. The allegations were confirmed when Aljejandra gave birth to a black baby. Now the father is said to be Nash’s former teammate Jason Richardson. The Suns abruptly traded Richardson to the Orlando Magic in December, around the same time the baby was born.

Sounds like an entire season’s worth of material for basketball wives!

On April 4, 2011, Richardson was identified as the father of a child with the wife of ex-teammate Steve Nash[19]. The child's December, 2010 birthday closely correlates with the date of Nash's filing for divorce from his wife and Richardson's trade from the Suns to the Orlando Magic.
