3peat!!!

palepilsenpin0y 06-18-2010 02:45 AM

Props to Kobe! He's the man. He (though narrowly) deserved that Finals MVP and that championship.

But honestly, I kinda want him to not win next year. If he does another three-peat, people will start saying that he's as good as MJ, or better. Which Fucking makes me sick to my stomach because every time I hear someone or see someone post that Kobe is better, or will be better than Jordan, I just wanna smack that person in the face..... twice.

It's almost like comparing Wayne Gretzky and... Sidney Crosby.

But overall, I wanted Lakers to win against the Celtics tonight. And I was amazed at the defensive battle between the two, and the comeback being down 13 points in the 3rd quarter. Very impressive, and overall this whole post-season was just great to watch! Congrats L.A. Lakers, 2010!

hotjoint 06-18-2010 07:11 AM

Lakers gonna win it again next year if phil and fisher come back :)

TRDood 06-18-2010 07:33 AM

hahaha.. i was so confused when that salalabrine came out. he looked so out of place but at the same time, he was uber excited about his 60 seconds of finals game 7

I honestly do think Kobe is better than Jordan. Just like id say Crosby is better than Gretzky.

But if u compare Jordan in his time vs Kobe in his time, Jordan is obviously better.

I will reply to you what I posted a couple months ago:

The fact that they use the phrase "The Michael Jordan of" (for example, "The Michael Jordan of Snowboarding") to express greatness and being the best says a lot already. The same way we would use Wayne Gretzky from Hockey, Michael Schumacher from F1, and Pelé from Soccer/Futbol. Michael Jordan (at least, to me) is the GREATEST OF ALL-TIME. He has every right to be "arrogant". To me, that's just a different way of expressing a form of confidence. If he is the best at what he does, and he has made his own name synonymous with the actual sport and the word "greatness" , why shouldn't he?

Kobe Bryant is also one of the best players to ever hold a basketball. He is also very 'cocky' in his own way, and he also has the right to do so. He lead his team to 4 championships (with help of course. But even Jordan needed help with his 6 championships), and he is currently also the best Laker right now. But he is NOT Jordan. Anyone who compares Jordan with great players such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James is fighting a lost cause. It's just not right to do. Jordan IS basketball.

Like NBA Legend and former Laker Earvin "Magic" Johnson once said,
"There's Michael Jordan, and then there is the rest of us."

Kobe is great. He's awesome. Don't get me wrong, I'm also a Black Mamba fan. But he is and never will be better than Air Jordan.

Yes he did play pretty well in the playoffs. But keep in mind his performances were just good. Maybe great.

But not Jordan-esque.

*Start rant*

Kobe has extremely poor shot percentages almost every single game. He even shot 6 out of 24 for game 7 of the Finals which ALMOST cost them the title. Yes he did grab 15 rebounds. But honestly, that's just about it for that game. The highest he scored against Boston in the Finals was 38. And that was even a losing effort.

Jordan? That guy shoots well-above 50% in pretty much every single game. He can drop 40 points (even more) against teams in the Playoffs. He even scored 38 whopping points WHILE he had a fever! He even scored the game winning shot! And this was the FINALS, against a behemoth team of the Utah Jazz. They had two hall-of-famers, John Stockton and "The Mailman" Karl Malone. As well as a fantastic supporting cast. That was called the "flu game". Jordan dropped 38 points at his WORST condition. Kobe managed to merely tie that at his BEST.

And championships? IT FUCKING PISSES ME OFF that people say Kobe is only one championship away from tying Jordan, and he still has many years to come.

Well news flash people! Jordan was Finals MVP all 6 times. And He was the league's season MVP 5 out of those 6 times (Karl Malone was MVP for that one season, who Jordan beat in the Finals anyways. Twice) How bout Kobe? He was only Finals MVP twice, and this year he just BARELY deserved it. Keep in mind, during his first three-peat Shaq was averaging 38 points per game during the post-season! As well as 15 boards a game! Kobe was just the sidekick who played a big, but supporting role! Hence Shaq won all three Finals MVP, and earned it by a landslide.

I won’t argue that Lakers had a great supporting cast on all 5 years because Jordan too had terrific back-up, including fellow Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen.

Congratulations Kobe, you deserved the championship this year. You fought hard against the Suns and the Celtics (though almost being upset-ted by 8th seeded Oklahoma Thunder). You luckily won game 7 against Boston and narrowly won finals MVP. In all honestly, you sincerely are a superb player.

But please. Everyone, show some respect if you love or watch the game of Basketball and the NBA. Please. Never ever compare Kobe Bryant to Michael Jordan.

MJ is the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.

Thank you.

*End rant*

Jordan has never lost in the finals. Kobe has lost twice. Enough said

Oh well. Can't wait for next season boys!

This debate gets brought up every 10 or so pages...

I'm not a Kobe fan at all, but I give the guy probs for the career he has had. He is the best player in the league today. To the Lebron lovers out there, win a ring first.

If I had a choice between MJ and Kobe (both in their prime) to take the last shot of the game, I would take Jordan.

WHY?

How many times has Kobe averaged a 50+ FG% in a season??

ZERO!

How many times has Jordan averaged a FG % of 50 or higher in a season?

6 with 3 of them being 53% or higher.

411ken 06-20-2010 03:48 PM

^ Kobe will not be Jordan. PERIOD... But should they be mentioned in the same sentence as greats? HELL YES.. If you dont' agree, then I don't know what to say.

Michael Jordan shot for 26.3% in game 6 of the 1996 Finals between the Bulls and the Sonics.

Jordan:
1996 Finals - 41% against Sonics over 6 games
1997 Finals - 46% against Jazz over 6 games
1998 Finals - 43% against Jazz over 6 games

Bryant:
2008 Finals - 41% against Celtics over 6 games
2009 Finals - 43% against Magic over 5 games
2010 Finals - 41% against Celtics over 7 games

Kobe has also dropped 40 points (even more ) against teams in the Playoffs.

2000 Playoffs: Shaq 31 pts/game 15 rbds/game 28 yrs; Kobe 21 pts/game 22 yrs
2001 Playoffs: Shaq 30 pts/game 15 rbds/game 29 yrs; Kobe 29 pts/game 23 yrs
2002 Playoffs: Shaq 28 pts/game 13 rbds/game 30 yrs; Kobe 27 pts/game 24 yrs

2006 Playoffs: Shaq 18 pts/game 34 yrs (champion); Kobe 27 pts/game 28 yrs (first round exit) Shaq 29 pts/game in first round @ 28 yrs
2007 Playoffs: Kobe 33 pts/game (first round exit) 29 yrs Shaq 27 pts/game in first round @ 29 yrs
2008 Playoffs: Kobe 30 pts/game (lost in the Finals) 30 yrs
2009 Playoffs: Kobe 30 pts/game (won in the Finals) 31 yrs Shaq 27 pts/game (second round exit) 31 yrs
2010 Playoffs: Kobe 29 pts/game (won in the Finals) 32 yrs Shaq 21 pts/game (lost in the Finals) 32 yrs

I don't think Michael and Kobe are equals. What I mean by that is that you can't really compare them. They are players from different era. Kobe entered the league at 18. Michael entered at 21. That's 3 years, and add the 2 years that Michael took off, that will be a total of 5 years. I think it's safe to say that 5 years make a big impact on a athlete's career. So what if Kobe went through the same career timeframe as Michael? Would he be as good? No one knows.

But if one is going to start throwing numbers around and say that Kobe rode Shaq to the 3 peat in LA, I don't think it's a fair comparison. Looking at numbers, Kobe performed just as good as Shaq when comparing them both at the same age.

All the numbers came from here
