another issue with running premix on top of the omp is premature carbon buildup, do to the higher amount of oil present in the combustion chamber.

an alternative, could be to use the Rotary Aviation 2stroke adapter, that will allow you to draw from a separate resevoir while retaining the factory omp and oil injectors.

that way you're not injecting used motor oil for apex seal lubrication, lol.

i say dont buy that one.

i didn't have too much of a problem with mine
sold it cause i moved to toronto
but it does eat up a lot of gas

and also i wouldn't buy an auto or a rebuild

I'd figured that the people who are interested on buying the rx8 will look at this thread too. I bought mine new back at 07' and it has been very reliable since. Like most of the post here. You have to do your homework on how to maintain such a fine machine because it's not an econobox and it shouldn't be treated as one. Even having said that, maintenance is not such a big deal. one of them is the need to check the dipstick once in awhile, which we should do on most of our cars anyway. Another is not to turn off the engine when its cold, which might foul the plugs and flood the engine. But this issue has been address on some tsb too. And of course the regular scheduled maintenance work. There is a rx8club site where you can get tons of information on how to make most the it.
Like most information on the internet. I believe the most accurate reviews comes from knowledgeable individuals who have used it. Because it's so easy to trash talk on any thing with out any concrete backing or just coming from hearsay.
Rx8 is known for its driving dynamics, a very well balance car and the linear power delivery of it's rotary engine. If you who are looking for tons of torque, then you are looking at the wrong car and get a Mustang instead. But if you like working the gear box, touching the 9k redline once in awhile and just enjoy the pleasure of driving. Then welcome to the select few happy rx8 owner. Like someone had said earlier, its like driving an s2000 with a roof and a back seat :)

if you really want a rx8, get another one. it's a waste to buy a automatic. no power, no fun, no handling.

if you r not into really sport car, just like some of them said, get an g35 or 350z. they look ok; they do not have much trouble and they have some horsepower to fake you a bit in the straight.

if you really into sport car and want a true sport car and want to do some racing like track day or autocross, RX8, s2000 or miata are your choices.

anyways, its your choice. Whatever you choice, think about your personality and hobby, find the one which suit you the best. then it will be your best car.

I love how all these people are saying no don't buy one and they've probably never even driven one...

Ya they're bad on gas, and expensive to repair buttt.... they're super fun to drive, and you'll have a car that not many people have....

As for the auto ya they're slow i test drove several before I bought mine and my 2004 civic at the time felt faster and as for rebuild... rebuilds can be a horror show when you go to repair them... i owned a 2003 accord v6 coupe rebuild and had to replace the tranny at 80000km... the dealer told me to get lost because they don't do warrenty work on rebuilds and when i went to go replace the tranny with my own money I had to pay a welder to come in and do some frame work cause they couldn't even remove the tranny out of the it....

so as for auto and rebuild... well for 7k if you wanna take a risk and save 5-6000 bucks ya you can roll the dice

or you can look to spend 14-15k and get one that has same km but is manuel...

just my 2 cents...

rx 7 > rx 8 for fun factor

you won't complain about lack of torque with turbo's & 430hp.

I'm in the same boat. I love the practicality of the car, and since I don't commute much to work (10-15 min drive), I think I could live with the poor gas mileage.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy your friend's car, but rather find an RX8 with better condition. A lot of 2004 engines had problems strait from their design, so they issued a TSB to replace a lot of them. So if you find a 2004 RX8 with a warrantied engine, take it as a positive note.

I got a used rx8 for $4000 but I need to replace clutch and starter first. So far, I enjoy the 6 speed and it is fun to drive.
