Vancouver's Dirty Little Parking Secrets

The Vancouver Sun's doing a series on where some of the worst-ticketed spots are in the city, as well as some other parking-related tips and whatnot. Worth a read:

Overview:
http://www2.canada.com/vancouversun/...58579f&k=19913

Where you're most likely to get ticketed:
http://www2.canada.com/vancouversun/...53a2901&k=9818

The most ticketed meter:
http://www2.canada.com/vancouversun/...8e5326&k=67813

And my favourite, the map:

The secret to not getting a parking ticket is to abide by the parameters stated on the sign.

good one

but sometimes it's just so tempting to run and out without paying! especially if you're just stopping for 10 minutes.

OR do what my friend did today, we parked at a meter and pulled out some change. someone suggested to try the pennies and maybe if you flick them in it'll work so thats what my friend did and it worked! it counted as a dime which equal to 6mins a penny =D

That map is awesome. If you hit the permit only display, you can pretty much see exactly which routes the meter maids take. Which means you know where you have a good chance of not being caught for parking in a permit only zone.

Along Broadway in Kits (west of Burrard) there is an average of 800 expired-meter tickets over the past 4 years. That's ~4/week.

Thus the chances of me being caught on Broadway in Kits with an expired meter are virtually none. In particular Sunday morning when we usually pay to park and eat brunch, parking officers don't even start duty till 11:30.

Likewise infront of my condo building in Kits there is timed street parking. There have been 32 tickets given out in 4 years, or one every 6.5 weeks. I assume vehicles are only ticketed when someone reports them, or they are in the way (street cleaning). So I'm never moving my car again.

Last of the Series:'Parking Ticket Prince' Rennie jokes about buying meter from city

Realtor Bob Rennie, known by many as Vancouver's "condo king," may have to get used to another nickname: the prince of parking tickets.

Using parking-violation data for the past five years, The Vancouver Sun compiled a list of the 10 most-ticketed licence plates in the city.

Nine of those plates belong to commercial vehicles such as armoured cars and parcel-delivery trucks, which often find themselves dinged for stopping where they shouldn't.

Only one of the 10 is a personal vehicle: Bob Rennie's luxury car.

Since Jan. 1, 2004, Rennie has racked up 204 parking tickets. http://www2.canada.com/vancouversun/...7c7a45&k=56665
