some more knowledgable than me said you're better off waiting for an sti (he suggested a ver.5?). the plain jane wrx models of that vintage suffered cooling/overheating problems, among other things.

domestic versions wouldn't have that problem at all it's making pussy power and therefore generating pussy heat.

When you make big power with pussy cooling that's when shits fail.

that model year of wrx had the ej20t in it's earliest phase. the 2.5RS you are referring to was an ej25 non-turbo. the phase 1 DOHC versions of the ej25 had head gasket problems.

the 2.5RS locally had an EJ25 in there, not the 20.

the "phase II" SOHC e25 found in the 1999-2001 Impreza RS models had issues with the headgasket going after a certain mileage (150k+). dunno about the 1998 Impreza RS as it featured a different DOHC designed 2.5L engine.

are you sure about that? i thought i had my fact straight... my friend had a 98 RS, and he had the phase 1 DOHC engine that overheated the engine due to the blown headgasket issue (his went at 80k kms, after being repeately told by the dealer he didn't have a problem). he told me that the 99-01 phase 2 engine with the SOHC heads did not have the same problems he had
