drop those heavy factory seats for some Seibon CF or what not I think that's 100lb off right there.
and then dump the rear seats (not like there is proper headroom in there anyways), parcel shelf.... another 80lbs at least?
and then throw on some forged alloys.Wait for HKS to release Ti exhaust for it - these components weight a ton from factory using mild steel. And that muffler is unnecessarily large.
Carbon hood/trunk maybe? but those I find are minimal in weight loss. I think they are aluminum already as it is?
Should feel feather weight after all that.

I still don't like the font no matter how much I look at it. It's not growing on me.
I hate how the headlights just dip down on the corners, and then the grill/vent isn't wide enough.
Every other angle looks pretty good, except the front.

just went to rmd automall to check the 2.0T and the v6 out...
im was so tempted... to be one of the first to own one locally, but my only problem is what "Hyundai" means in the auto industry (what will this car be/look like in a few years? will it be reliable? a worthwhile investment for a college student looking for a sporty whip?).

as or being one of the first to own locally, it don't mean shit, coming from the first to own locally Don't buy it for that reason, wait for an R33 GTR for attention and being an industry pioneer. people will still think you're either "in a new hyundai" or "in a new Tiburon" and you're not going to impress people unless they're that pro snowboarder in squamish who ended up working at a shop and actually knew what the thing was when I was at the bank and couldn't beleive his eyes.
as for hyundai, I think this car and the sedan will turn shit around. add that to the 10k new accent, hyundai will be popular soon. with the americans going down any day now, hyundai should be a name for once. they're comin out with good cars and amazing warranties. the fit and finish is great and the build quality is quite amazing and the price is right. it's taken some time but I think this or next will be their year. The only real reason not to buy one is if you're a fucking richmond fob who needs a MB or BMW badge to impress friends and family.
as for the worthwhile investment, any new car is a horrible investment, and sure you could get a used wrx for way cheaper with the same resale value..... but I didn't want that. It's hard to say what the resale value will be, but I assume they'll be selling for 20k by the end of the year 20k for a 1 year old beat the fuck on sports coupe haha.
I'd say go for it. it gives a big fuck you to the american automakers if nothing else. that's why I got one.

Yup, don't worry about being the first dude to own it. Who cares. It's a Hyundai.
It's not like a car lots of people will be wow-ing over. But besides that, being new owners to new cars aren't always the best thing. Let other people test it out and be guinea pigs for the errors and call backs. Buy it next year. lol
Maybe they might boost the performance like the current gen WRX. haha

Maybe they might boost the performance like the current gen WRX. haha | I think many people already wow'd over it. So many curious people just walking around the car outside the dealership.
It's mesmerizing.

Saying it's just a 'Hyundai' is pretty damn ignorant if you ask me.
They've recently won some car of the year awards if I remember correctly.

Maybe they might boost the performance like the current gen WRX. haha | god that's so ignorant. yea sure the hyundai badge doesn't make girls think you're baller or make them wet their pants like a lambo or ferrari but it doesn't mean it's not nice to have such a car.
people used to think that about japanese cars in the not so long ago past.
when the first Datsun Z came over no one gave much of a crap but now to tons of people it's just jizz inducing.
i'm not saying the Genesis will accrue the same sort of reaction or cult following but it definitely isn't impossible.
don't be so narrow minded, that's a problem in our damn society.

hyundai is not comin up anymore, it came up already
for those who haven't or wouldn't try it at all
their interior quality/comfort etc has caught up w/ japanese cars
reliability..... well their new era of cars are just too new to judge
but from where i work, i can tell u.. not much maintenance needed, just regular oil changes is sufficient to keep it problem free

dropped by the automall to take a quick look.
i was able to pick out a bunch of "little things" that stood out to me as cheap or unrefined, but none of those little flaws would've really been too far out of place in any japanese car in the same segment. if you're looking for an enthusiast's performance vehicle, the interior is fine. i'd say that anyone still saying it's cheap and crappy inside should get a reality check and go sit in a Toyota. it's the same thing.
shift throws were a little long but i liked the "snick snick" feel going into the shift gates. the only thing i couldn't stand about the drivers' interface was the clutch. if you take your foot off fast enough, it lags behind and doesn't come up as quickly as you do. it's the same kinda thing i ran into with the Mazda3 I used to drive. makes double clutching a nightmare; it'll slap your foot as you come back down.
the car is definitely a bargain for what it is. there's a lot of hype surrounding this car, but it seems deserved.

the clutch feel sucks. it's a dual mass flywheel meant for old people who care how smooth the ride is. I hear it's a $1200 american part that's non resurfacable. Hopefully they come out with a light weight flywheel/strong clutch soon and I can offset that cost by selling the stock flywheel to a woman who has bought the car and 4 months later needs a new flywheel. The heavy flywheel and stock drive by wire throttle control give it a pretty tame feeling the more I drive it.
There are a few processors that will get rid of the DBW slow response but they're about $300 right now. The clutch and flywheel would be nice to change, but I have a feeling that will mess with the waranty as well, and seeing as how the tranny sucks already after 1500km, that warranty might be good.
I should clarify, the transmission is great, I really love the feel of it, when it's warmed up. when I go to work or drive anytime the car is cold, it doesn't want to go into 1st gear at a stop sign or light. It will leave an intersection in 2nd like an F350, but it should still pop into first gear at a stop when it's -2 without grinding. Hopefully hyundai will bless me with X amount of Redline MTL installed, but I have a feeling I'll be doing it myself.
Other than that, the car has been great. every new car will have a few issues, but overall I couldn't be happier with it.

Also consider changing the tranny oil to GM Synchomesh with friction modifier.

How's the space inside the car? Quite comfy for a mid-sized feller? How comfortable do the people in the back seats sit?
Road noise an issue w/o the radio turned on?

Up front it's great. lots of room for pretty much every sized person. The back, not so much. the tallest I've had in there was about 5'8 and had -5 headroom. The 5'1 girl sitting in the back had a couple inches between her hair and the window. Loads of legroom, but it doesn't mean much when there's no headroom. I havn't personally sat back there yet, but I hope to soon haha.
road noise isn't bad. the interior is pretty quiet, but there is some road noise still. about as much as you may expect there to be from a sports coupe with decent tires on it. with the radio on there's nothing at all.
and this morning it was -7 going to work and it didn't want to go into 1st or 2nd
