my 5 month old jindo is starting to have bad breath (saliva) and body odor since we switched to Orijen puppy formula. Orijen pet food is ranked amoung the highest quality from my research.
Is it still possible that my dog is not doing well with this food , giving him bad breath and bad gas?

Anyone feed their dog Orijen? what do you think about such brand?

Whether or not the brand is a high brand does not mean it works with every single dog.
I would switch the food. But remember to give it at least a month to see if the change makes a difference.

i love orijen. only food i feed my min pin.
but i found these things about it.
gives dog gas
makes him shit lots
makes him alot fatter (compared to equal amount of other food) so i feed him less
makes shit+ fart smell super stank

if he's got bad breath give him a "greenie" treat everday. my dogs breath never smells like anything with that. tis awesome

Are you saying all dog food with High protein composition (70% protein) will give dog gas?

I am thinking about switching away from Orijin. I want to try "Innova Evo", wondering if it will be the same gassy result since its also high protein (even higher than orijin) composition

Since i switched my dog over from commercial crap he's gained some weight, coat is shinier but his breath still smells the same as before. He actually poos less but I've never heard him fart.

I switched from something commercial (cant remember the name) to orijen.

the smell that comes from the saliva you will not be able to change. The breath and the body odor is something that you can get rid of. For breath it can be coming from two places, the mouth (so the teeth) or the stomach. I always make sure I clean up the teeth on a dog that has bad breath as that is usually the culprit. Then if the breath still smells I tackle the other. If the dog is on a really rich diet then I switch them to something simpler. Charcoal cookies can also help if the bad breath only occurs once in awhile.
The body odor would be from the oil that the dog secretes. The smell can be lessened and usually eliminated by finding a diet that works for them.

he is 5month old,, so his teeth is falling and replacing, so I cant really or need to clean his teeth. I have him on Orijen puppy for 2 weeks now. My gf thinks puppy breath and body smells more. Should I let puppy try longer or switch to another brand?

Thinking about Go Natural brand or EVO!

I find alot of puppies foods to be too rich. This can cause a smell from the stomach/breath and from the skin. Personally I would switch to an all life stage like the Go Natural all life stage. Or something else that is good quality but not really rich.

My dog is on Orijen too....He loves that stuff
Orijen made him gain weight so I started to feed him less
I also noticed the same problem about body odor...Maybe I should change his diet too

I wonder if smell is a result of high protein 42% food.. I am going to try Go Natural Grain-free canine, but it is also 42% protein content. Maybe it wont change the smell problem.

Almost All grain-free kibbles are high in protein 42%. It is very hard for me to find high quality grain-free food with lower protein content

My friend suggested "taste of wild"
he said it works really well for his dog
after some research and found out it was made by diamond
so I am kinda not sure which one to switch to

Bought a small bag of "EVO red meat large bite" made by Innova for my pup. Will see how he does on this red meat only grain-free formula. Hopefully its the fish that was in the previous Orijen food that he is allergic to. Also bought the "Go Natural endurance grain-free", but ingredients are too similar to Orijen Puppu formula

the body odor might be a good byproduct. dont dogs that go on meat diets usually tend to stink more. to me it sounds like the orijen stuff has high quality ingredients then.

we are still on the "GO" brand from tissol. my dog goes thru the big bag every month, not sure the size, but im guessing 14kgs. overall he doesnt eat as much dog food, but this dog food costs me $75 a month.

oh well, less poop to pick up.

I have a Korean Jindo, the size is between a larger Akita, and a smaller Shiba-inu.

I would like to rotate my dog's food often, but have heard they take time to get used to it. I really dont want to induce diarrhea every 2 month by switching him to different food every couple months.

personally, when I used to use kibble I stayed away from 'puppy' foods. I find my puppies grow slower which is easier on their whole body on an adult based kibble. Yes you do have to feed a little more to make sure they are getting enough nutrition. There is usually lower fat and lower protein in the adult. I find there can be too much of a good thing. Unfortunately if it's a grain free kibble it will be harder to move away from such a high protein diet. If any of you do find something please post I would be interesting in finding something that I can recommend to people who want to stick with kibble.

There are grain-free kibbles that are not so high protein. Sister company of "Go natural". "Now" has a grain-free line i think its not 42% protein. "Go Natural"s own endurance formula is 33% protein and grain-free.

But www.dogfoodanalysis.com otherwise indicated majority of their highest rated foods (ie 6 stars) are 40% protein and above.

My 5.5 month old Jindo puppy is transitioning from Orijen puppy to EVO red meat. He has no diarrhea issues so far 1 week in. Knock on wood

I do want to let you know though, just in case you run into the same problem in the future, that they are a few people lately on a dog nutrition list I'm on that has (just like the site I quoted above said) their dog on EVO and have noticed dry skin/fur and scratching. They finally saw a change when they switched to another food. Just a FYI so you can be on the look-out if that ever happens with your dog.

Actually my Dog does have dry skin, and itchy skin, and he scratches alot. I found a patch of hairless skin on one of his legs.

But this has already occurred ever since he was on First Mate potatoes and fish puppy formula, Orijen's puppy formula, and now EVO red meat.

I dont know what to do, I have no idea why he is allergic and what is the cause. These 3 foods are suppose to be grain-free. His vet even gave me a 6 month supply of flea medication and it isn't really helping.

I've tried Evo before but it didn't work well for my dog. His stool was soft and wet.
He really loves Orijen and he is still on it for almost 2 years (Chicken)
I know some dogs are allergic to fish and red meat that's why I am always stay on chicken or turkey.
I might change his diet to Horizon. the ingredients look very healthy
