There's a $35 fee to register for car2go, so not really worth it if you have your own car imo

"Regular registration fee of $35 is waived when entering CAR2GOTIME promo code."

freakshow 10-23-2014 05:29 PM

I didn't mean that I think they'll sell my cc info.

i meant, are there other fees? annual charges? what if i use the 30 mins, then they start to ding me for other stuff (damage, milage, etc) maybe there's a fee for inactivity, etc

So why would i give my credit card info to a service that i don't really need and risk charges i don't know about because i didn't read the fine print, or because i use the service so seldomly.

saucywoman 10-23-2014 06:31 PM

Freakshow you don't need it cause you have a car. If you're someone who would use it then its completely safe to give them your info. Since totaling my car I've signed up and used it a bit. They only charge you a $2 something donation to a charity and then anytime you use the card. For damage you have to do a walkaround and report any damage you notice on there

Bender Unit 10-23-2014 07:08 PM

Car2go will charge $2 annually for ICBC as a donation.

^ you got it there. Didn't read it through.

"Unless otherwise noted, free minutes are valid for up to 45 days after they are credited to your account. It can take approximately 2-3 business days for minutes to be loaded onto your account, and valid free minutes will be applied towards your next trip. Once minutes expire, they cannot be re-credited."

So the 30mins expires after 45days?

car 2 go is best thing when roaming around downtown. especially during parades, fireworks, etc.

TOS'd 10-23-2014 09:40 PM

Best feature of car2go, you can park, and end your trip, in permit/resident restricted streets.

LP700-4 10-23-2014 10:12 PM

I registered using a prepaid mastercard lol oops i think it has like a dollar on it.

Will keep that in mind :) thanks
So far I'm only using it once in awhile to and/or from the automall and for groceries, otherwise transit is close to me.

I think with the free registration, if you live in Vancouver, getting Car2Go is a no-brainer. I have my own car, but I've used Car2Go countless times, mostly for one-way trips. When I get tired of my usual running routes, I would drive somewhere and then run home. Going downtown to have a few drinks with friends? Drive a Car2Go downtown, then cab home.

Also - with so many street fairs, like Car Free Days, or like Kits days, Car2Go always has their booth where you can spin the wheel for free minutes. I think I've probably gotten 200 free minutes in the past year or two.

For some reason I never thought of them that way, good ideas. Also handy if you need to drop your car off at a shop and don't want the hassle of organizing a ride home.

Neither did I until my Manager gave me a ride the other day in one and showed me how quick and painless it was to use.

- Search for available cars in the area with Smart Phone
- Book
- Inspect vehicle and get in car
- Drive to destination in Vancouver, park and see ya the fuck later

Anyone who sign up get confirmation they've completed your registration yet? I called ICBC yesterday and they email it in but thinking due to the promo it's taking Car2Go longer to process?

murd0c 10-24-2014 06:18 PM

But how do you get the car key and what do you do with it once you are done?

You scan your member card over a reader near the driver windshield; door unlocks after it checks with their system; you punch in your PIN and complete basic pretrip questions and the key is in a slot; reverse pretty much for when you end the trip.

murd0c 10-24-2014 06:36 PM

Hmmm sounds like a darn good idea to me

i-vtecyo 10-24-2014 07:28 PM

so lets say i drove to harrison hot springs spend a night there. Now rates are like 84 for 1 day. so lets say if i drove there (1 hour) and ended my trip, would i be able to resume it the next day without being charged for 1 day? although im aware that someone else might take the car, leaving me stranded haha

No you must end the trip in your home zone. Vancouver has it's own home zone and surrey does (I think Richmond North/West Van is part of the vancouver home zone). You cannot pick a vancouver car drop off in surrey.

If you go to harrison, its $50/day (weekend rate deal on now). So, if you go to harrison on Friday, stay over Sat, Come back on Sunday, you will pay $100 (Friday all day , Sat all day , Sunday partial day).

Also, car2go just activated Global card recently, so if you go to Toronto, you can use your vancouver card, same with seattle. Seattle has shitty "coverage" though because it's not as concentrated as downtown vancouver.

source: signed up for car2go when they first came out and been a lover since then.
