Coquitlam- Close to 1,600 people are without power after a car struck a power pole at Como Lake Road and Gatensbury Street at around 11 a.m. today.
An occupant of the vehicle was extracted by fire crews but there was no word on the person's condition.
The pole that was struck held two circuits and power was out in parts of Coquitlam and Port Moody.
One of the circuits were able to be restored and BC Hydro said it expected to have all power back on line by approximately 5 p.m. today (Wednesday).
Students at Port Moody secondary have been sent home due to the outage and businesses along St. Johns street are currently without power.

I was driving to SFU this morning and saw a car accident. Turns out that the beamer hit a power pole and caused a power outage. All the lights were out and should be back up in about 15 minutes (hopefully).
Side note, the head of the beamer was literally destroyed. All the airbags including the side ones came out. Hope the guy is alright.
I don't have a clear picture because my camera phone sucks but if anyone has a pic, please share it!
