i'm new to trading and would like to open up an account. Did a little research and found that tradefreedom and questrade has one of the lower pricing at $9.95 for non-active traders like myself. Anybody have recommendation on which of these 2 to go with or any other suggustions?

I've used both questrade and etrade. Questrade has had issues, but because of my small volume in trades and $$, the cheaper commissions has made a huge difference to me. If you are playing with larger sums of money, you can use interactive brokers, they seem to have a good rep and low commissions as well, but if not questrade does the job for new traders to get a foot in the door.
Let me know if you open a questrade account. We can both get rebates $$ if I refer you.

I use interactive brokers and they fucking suck cock but I still use them because for what I do they're pretty much my only choice. They are cheap but don't expect to get any service as they are based out of Montreal and don't give a fuck about anyone west, east, north or south of them.
I used to use Quest Trade. They weren't bad, no real complaints.

I use TD waterhouse Active trader platform
It's a little pricey but has decent price execution and the level 2 market data is pretty fast
the commission is unfortunately a little high but if you trade actively they will drop the fee
about 6.99 per trade plus commissions as low as i've seen it
i heard nothing but horror stories about Etrade
the commericials are cute
but thats about it lol
havnt tried quest trade

Scotia iTrade was just launched. Google it...competitive commissions and soon to be combined with the rest of the BNS trading platforms/research abilities.

I use Interactive brokers. Best by far. I also got a questrade account for TFSA/RRSP.. it sucks. Go with IB, unbeatable rates.

However, fees match the other brokerages out there and only becomes cheaper if you're an active trader or if your account with them is worth a lot of $$$.
As for retrieving F/A, T/A - prophet charts, bollinger, black sholes for options, institution $$ movement, industry group movement, insider trading etc.., I subscribe to a different service.

TOS wins best Customer service. I hate questrade with a passion. You can't find shares to short, EVER.
Atleast, with ThinkorSwim, you can reserve shares. IB you can check the availability. TOS is a little more expensive, but that's ok since they don't charge hidden fees like Questrade. $0.01/share for NYSE and AMEX. Ridiculous!
Good news, TD Waterhouse has completed their side of the purchase of TOS. Now you have great platform, customer service, and the ease of funding your account through TD. Definite bonus!

Wow.. TOS is the broker of choice if you're an options trader. Didn't know about that transaction.

I was traversing through the questrade site and I saw their ads on how you have USD currency in Canadian RSPs (RRSP, TFSA, etc). Can anyone confirm ? I thought it was against the law ?
