eBay find: Original Loki mask from Jim Carrey's The Mask

eBay is a great hunting ground for quirky odds and ends. Things that you might not necessarily need, but want like that second pizza or to watch The Lord of the Rings extended editions all weekend long. And we’ve found one such unlikely treasure that we think might get you raiding the Bay of e – the original Loki mask as used in the production of The Mask. Yes, the comedy god that is Jim Carrey has had his sweaty paws all over this piece of impressive proppery, though sadly it won’t cling to your face and magically transform you into a gurning comic book hero. Just wanted to clear that one up.

The mask is however in excellent condition, it now being 15 years since the film was released and is a rarity on the market, with the seller claiming that numerous replicas have been for sale but never before an actual. Over to the seller PaulBeee to explain its origins. “[The mask has] lived in a display case since it was given to me by the film’s special effects coordinator Thom Bellissimo. Thom worked for me on a television series I produced, and his signature, ‘TO PAUL, THOM BELLISSIMO’ can be seen (with difficulty) above the inside left eye hole of the mask.”

The seller adds that the prop was used in the scene where Carrey’s loser bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss first finds it in the water and in subsequent ones. The mask has currently attracted 17 bids and free shipping throughout the US is offered to the highest bidder. So if you fancy a little screen-used treat that will always be an amazing talking point, why not bid on the mask? It sure changed Stanley’s life.

That's a pretty neat piece of memorabilia if you're into it and it can be verified to be authentic. Relatively cheap too

Cameron Diaz anyone?
