You can make it so that the system only starts the car when its gear is in neutral position; but some shops won't even do it because of the liability.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

alarms like compustar have a mode to ensure you leave the car in netural so that you can do auto start safely and correctly

They wire it so that it doesnt start unless the car is in neutral. The reason for this and some shops not putting remote start on standard cars is obvious; what happens if you start a car in 1st gear? Especially without a driver.

There's some safety feature for the standard vehicle. While U left your vehicle MUST be in neutral. Because while U step out your door, your engine will keep running til U close the door then the engine will shut off. Which mean make sure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL, then U can remote start next time. But if U need to left your gear to 1st. position, of course U won't able to remote start. Well, it's really depend how often U need to park your vehicle uphill or downhill?

sometime leaving ur car in ebrake is not enough when you live in hilly areas and having remote start work depending on location is shitty then. Not worth the money i guess

It is good to have remote start during winter time... At least it is for me! Nothing like goign into a warm car when it's freezing outside!

I've got a compustar alarm with auto start on my standard car. And like everyone said, the auto start won't activate unless the car's in neutral.

The way you're supposed to park on an incline/decline - point your wheels towards the curb and use your ebrake.

I got my gf a remote start for her manual a couple of winters ago. Only bad thing..... didn't get one for myself. And yes, hers is setup so the car doesn't shut off until the driver's door closes. You can disable it by stepping on the brake after the key is removed (in case you want to park in gear) but by doing so, you have to manually start it after.

curious, doesn't the clutch need to be engaged in order to start the car? at least in older cars you need to, haven't tried on my car yet.

sometime theres no curbs. even with the wheel turned sometime the ebrake doesn't hold up....now what? i mean not a lot people just relied on the ebrake on a manual car so putting it in gear is the way. Probably wont be able to relied on the ebrake if a hill size of boundary. So why do shops not install it?

Yes, all newer cars have a clutch safety switch. The alarm bypasses it.

I have an "Arctic Start" which is the re-badged Compustar you can buy off Ebay.ca. It's awesome..

While the car is auto now (again, sadly)... when it was manual, it still worked great... never had a problem. Not just nice in the winter - it's awesome being able to set the A/C when it's hot out, so the car is nice and cool when you get to it a minute or two later. Plus you can set it up to auto-unlock as you walk up to the car... like the newer luxury cars do.

Worth every penny!

I'm sure there's a way to do it but I wish there was an easy way to hook up the rear defrost sw. to the remote start. On my gf's car ('08 Civic), you have to manually hit the defrost sw. every time the car gets started.

If you're enough of a car person to possess the need to shift your own gears, you should at least be there when you wake it up in the mornings.

I personally don't activate the auto start when I park on a hill... I leave it in gear. The e-brake on someones car that I knew failed! And his car rolled down a hill and smashed into another car.

Since I heard about it, I've always had my car in gear when I park on a hill.
