Does anyone know any program that teaches you auto work for the summer or throughout the year? Free or not free is fine, if you know the price of the course, i would appreciate if you post it also. I'm just curious and doing some research on how to get some more knowledge in auto mechanics, TIA

Currently in highschool, program here kind of sucks. i don't know about post secondary, but i'm looking forward to it

VCC im doing it right now, it cost 4g's for level 1 apprenticeship
tehn second year is about 600-700$
its not that bad, i actully liek it there, but the food in the cafe is hella expensive

Locally there is only vcc and bcit that offers what you're looking for.

There is also another private institution around. But it is more expensive (around $10k) since the school isn't subsidized by the government.

there's really not many choices locally..
only two places i can think of are BCIT and VCC, but they are hella expensive- at least to me they are

VCC will be cheaper then bcit if that matters.

I'm currently taking the AST diploma program at BCIT. costs about 2200 for tuition, another 500 for books and what not for the first semester. about the same for the 2nd and 3rd semester i believe.

The unfortunate part is that there is mandatory co-op for my program, most shops are dead as hell. I went around handing resumes today, most said that they weren't hiring for the foreseeable future

IMO, if you decide to go to BCIT, only take AST if not, everything is almost a waste of time.

VCC/Kwantlen is pretty alright for their ELTT>

i did my level 1 apprenticeship program at kwantlen/highschool. it was a partnership program with surrey school board and kwantlen. cost me $400 for books, tuition paid by school board.

hm.. i suppose you can maybe apply for a job at midas or mr. lube? LOL!!!

not really any better than your current high school program.. but wtf.. at least you get paid

how much different are the courses at VCC and BCIT compared to the normal highschool course?
wouldn't it be much of the same book work + hands on.. but more in depth?

ELTT at VCC/Kwantlen/BCIT is pretty much waaay better than highschool automotive class. Way more hands on, book reading, notes, etc and way more information. Just don't slack off. Only way to learn is to ask questions, so whatever you don't understand just ask.

Now, if you're comparing between all three post-secondarys, that's different. VCC sends you a list of tools for what you need to buy, so basically you get to use your own tools at VCC. Whereas BCIT, there's a 'tool-room' using the 'key tag' system which is fucking stupid. Plus, if you go to BCIT for ELTT, and you get the far shop which doesn't have the tool room in it, then it's evne more fucked up because if you get the wrong tool, then you have to walk alll the way back and stuff like that.

Bcit has probably one of the best programs in canada, i am taking one right now, mine is being done throughout my Grade 12 Year in HIgh school,

Nope, VCC is the same. I was issued 5 tool cards. 1 for 1 tool or set of tools.
Return the tool, you get your card back.
