^ The only compromise you get is with the A3 since it's pretty much a MKV. The TT shares very little with the MKV except the engine layout and basic suspension.
The remainder of Audi's lineup (save for the Touareg based Q7 SUV) are all their own platforms with nothing at all shared with VW.
To say that Audi is an upgraded VW simply because one single model shares the basic platform is an over-generalization.
Next thing Z3guy is going to say is that a Gallardo is an upgraded Audi (same platform as R8) and since Audi=VW, then you can conclude the Gallardo is nothing more than a upgraded VW. |

Read magazines?...guy, give me a break, i own them; i don't read magazine hype about cars...again, I OWN them...
Audi interior is pretty darn cheap compared to upper level BMW/Mercedes (7 series,S-class, CL-class)...if you don't believe me, I'll offer you to come to my house and sit in my cars, then go to an audi dealership and sit in their cars...
you make me laugh. | C'mon, I picked magazines because they are less bias than you and I. Let's not playing ecomparing, because your always going to be more e-baller than me. If you think the 7 series interior is decent, that means you haven't sat in a A8 yet, son. No wait, aren't you in your 40s SUPAFLY?

I work on and drive these cars every single day, since our shop specializes in high-end cars only.
I don't own a VW/Audi, nor do I own a BMW or Mercedes. But anyone can see that Audi is ahead in this area. What did you compare, a new 7 series to a beat up A3?
Had an SL65 in just the other day, and I can't believe what a POS this car had for an interior - especially for the $140K the owner paid for it. Plastic looks cheap, fit was poor, things were falling apart. And this on a car with under 20K on the odo. Had I known your comment was coming I would have taken pics just to prove my point.
I suppose the next thing you're going to say is that when magazines test a car and say it can run 0-60 in 5.0 seconds that it's stupid for anyone to believe them? There's a reason that every single professional reviewer, whose opinions matter far more than yours, consistently comment on the level of quality of Audi interiors. And all those industry awards they've won for interior design and quality? Meaningless. Just like your biased opinion is.

Audi has come a long way from building major shitboxes in the 80's.

There are always a bad apple in a crate, but not all are falling apart, or else there would be more reviews stating so....
But then again, a SL65 is not made for comfort...its made to be a sports car with gobbs of power.
which shop do you work for ( pm me) im curious as to which shop you work with..my family is pretty well known with higher end shops.

LOL, completely unbiased here as I have a BMW myself. I like the look of the S3 interior better than the m6.

I purchased a BMW recently too but they just fail to realize that Audi's interior is 10x better than bimmers. No one ever questioned about BMW performance and handling. Ignorant fanboys.

Ok well I wouldn't go as far as to say 10x better...Yes, it's better but I don't think you can say it's 10x better. BMW interior is not ugly...

well, I have bot Audi & BMW, & i'd say Audi's interior design is superior. BMW isnt bad, but i think it leans towards the function over form.

TDI = Audi then trickled down to VW
1.8T = Audi then trickled down to VW
2.0T = Audi then trickled down to VW
Both the Touareg with V8 FSI and V6 TDI engines are audi engines. FSI engines are developed by Audi and then trickled down to VW...
VW's get more things from audi then audi gets from VW in the end. A good example that both companies use different AWD systems. 4Motion and Quattro are different. VAG is the parent company of Audi but when you look at it Audi is really its own company under the umbrella of VAG.
Lamborghini is under Audi, not VW. Bentley on the other hand is under VW which is clearly demonstrated by the Bi Turbo W12 found in the Continental GT. And lets not forget Bugatti
Audi's are the new Hip/Cool... BMW is old news and Mercedes is trying to regain a younger clientele with cars like the C63 and the GLK...
But lets not forget that PORSCHE is now the big daddy of all the VAG brands...

It's VWAG.
Porsche is majority stake holder now and is still trying to gain further control. There main reason for doing this was to get Audi.
Their brands are now VW, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda, Scania.
They are Europe's biggest Auto Manufacturer and are number two in the world overall and I believe they passed Toyota for #1 for 2009 first quarter sales.
Audi is behind BMW and Mercedes in North America but are gaining ground quickly, their sales plan is to be number 1 within the next eight years. In 2008 Audi for the first time in their history sold one million cars globally. For 2009 they expected a increase again but given the state of the world economy they are now thinking they will decrease by 10%. BMW and Mercedes are in a world of trouble so far into 2009.
Audi has had the best interior in automotive for the last several years.
Audi's technology is theirs for the most part, they used to share alot of platforms with VW but that is going away. VW and Audi are on a serious brand splitting venture right now, the dealers who have joint franchises have been told they must split the dealers, they must be in separate buildings and most of the dealers have already conformed to this or are in process of doing so.
As far as accolades are concerned I don't think Audi is too concerned being associated with VW. Audi has been winning awards every year with their cars. Their new flagship R8 V10 is to be available soon in North America. After driving the V8 version I can say this car will be simply outstanding. They will have a 3.0L TDI for the A4 and have a TDI for the Q7 and one should be available for the Q5 soon. Also the RS5 will be coming shortly. The other car to watch for is the new RS6, soon to be the worlds fastest production wagon/sedan which ungoverned could top 200mph. It is powered by a TT V10 engine producing 560bhp and 600+lb-ft of torque.
VW is having their own success with the new clean TDI engines which one a best of award at the LA Autoshow over Hybrid powered vehicles!!! The new yet to be released 2010 Golf was named World Car of the Year at the NY Auto Show. The new V6 TDI engine found in the Touareg has been said to be the most advanced automotive engine to date. It produces about 220bhp and about 400lb-ft of torque while still getting hwy/city mileage of around 9/10L per 100kms.
Then you have the technology VW came up with for the Veyron, the car that people said no one could build.
