Basic Insurance Rates? Hey everyone, just wondering how much the basic (down to the bone) insurance rate is? ICBC doesn't show pricing but they say its affected by location So how much is the lowest price just to legally drive your car in vancouver? neone know wether you can just insure your car somewhere else in BC? ie. salt spring? bowen? etc. places that are cheaper in terms of insurance because of lower traffic? |
it depends on what car you drive. different car, different rates. easiest way is to go to a local insurance place and ask for a quote, is usually 99% free. |
Basic rate for you is going to be different than others, based on your discount... how long you've been driving, number of accidents, etc. It's also going to matter what kind of car, year, model, options, etc. A 1985 Honda Civic is much less to insure than a 2000 Mercedes CLK500 convertible. For example, I have Roadstar and have been driving accident-free for 15+ years. I get a 43% discount on the basic rates. I pay $80 a month for my 1998 Cavalier Z24 with full coverage. Insuring your car somewhere other than where you live is fraud, and ICBC *will* catch you. Don't bother. |
anyone on revscene who's using this basic basic insurance and want to share? |

Even if people did share with you it wouldn't be relevant. |
There is no basic basic insurance. Each car starts at a different base. Each Location starts at a different base. Housing has another base. Coverage Year Liability Choose a car, pick up the phone, and call an insurance place. Say hello. Ask them how they're doing. Inquire about a quote on a certain vehicle. Give them your drivers license number. interact and discuss the coverage you will require. Wait. Get the quote. Say thank you. Hang up. Then do one or more of the following: Ask mommy for money because you're too broke to afford it. Ask daddy for money because you're too broke to afford it. End up with a cheaper car because you're too broke to afford insurance on that BMW or Benz you wanted. |
^^^ or ask mommy or daddy to insure vehicle under their name because it's cheaper!! then we wait for the thread in 3 months "totalled my car under parents insurance! ICBC trying to screw me over" |
People like you should be riding public transit. It's real cheap and the rest of us drivers are subsidizing your trips. |
well my insurance is $230 a month with 10% discount since i only have my N and it's a '93 240SX but yours will be different |
^ ouch! 99 accord 4 door ex-l @ 160 a month 03 accord 2 door ex-l @ 140 a month @25% discount |
Lowest price to legally drive your car would be around $1300 per year |
It all depends on the type of coverages, type of car, location (postal code), discount and usage. These are the basic questions that I ask customers when they call for a rate quote. |

mine is full coverage to the max, $370 a month and thats WITH a +40% surcharge. you are getting owned, but it's a 2door coupe with N what do you expect. and yes, i know it's hypocritical for me say you're getting owned lol *tear |
Those 5th gen Preludes are one of the most expensive vehicles to insure. Not a great choice if you are at high risk (surcharge insurance). I have a 350Z. Safe driver for 20 years. 43% discount. $137.5 a month with pretty heavy coverage. |
I don't even remember what I have for coverage, but if it counts. $291/month 95 Lexus SC400 20% discount And Storage is like $30 a month or something Or $30 a year. I don't remember. I have 2 cars as storage though haha |
