Its official General Motors has just announced that Pontiac will be "phased out by the end of 2010."

Just with twice the price tag and associated douchebaggery.

The GTO was an awesome car, and the G8 and Solstice are remarkable in their own right. As a brand though Pontiac means nothing to me, far too many stinkers outweigh the bright spots, but I hope at least one of the G8/Solstice will find a new home under another name.

No it doesn't...only thing that makes it alike is that it has SIMILAR shape, but even that is different. The X6 looks WAY better than the Aztec

There's A LOT of little differences in appearance that makes the x6 look A LOT better IMO.

X6= ugly to some, Aztec= ugly to all, even my pet dog puked when it saw one.

Not a good comparison.

Here is another example even Tiger Woods couldn't help it. He was trying so hard not to laugh while doing the Buick rendezvous commercial:

Bad time if you're a Pontiac dealer. Great time if you're a Chevrolet dealer.

Most of the population won't buy anything Pontiac now. Good time to visit a dealer and bargain if you're interested in anything like a Vibe, Solstice, or G8.

And yes your warranty will be honored by any GM dealer once Pontiac shuts down.

Its about time GM started axing brands left right and center.

Whats the point of having 3 of the same cars, slightly redeisgned and rebadged?

But the Toyota will hold it's value better than the Pontiac will... sad but true.

I saw my first X6 on the highway the other day, and I thought it WAS an Asstec. I did throw up in my mouth a little. It was almost as bad as seeing the Cayenne for the first time all over again, followed closely by the VW version of a Porsche... egad.

i wonder if they will have any incentives on the G8, when all the dealerships start to close. That's the only pontiac I would own.

Exactly what dealerships are closing down? Most Pontiac dealers are also GMC and Buick dealers. They will still have cars and trucks to sell... just no Pontiacs.

This whole thing with X6 and Aztecs has just proven one thing:

We will buy whatever the mass market is pushing, providing it is from a seemingly viable company. I've worked at BMW. X6's are junk.just like the X5's.

At least Aztecs didn't leak and have CELs all fucking day.

But the american companies really did shoot themselves in the foot. They have spent the last 30 years making sub par and horrible products, completely in denial and ignorance of the Japanese and Korean brands that started to creep up behind, and eventually surpass them.

I'm a big GM fan. I had a cavalier, and my favorite is the Vette. I honestly believe the new GMs and Fords (I work now at Ford) make great vehicle, or have the potential to, but are still playing the "ostrich head in the hole" role when it comes to what the general public in NA actually WANTS. GM's been doing a better job getting more cars out there that are great, reliable products. But guilty of rebadging WAY too many things, and having WAY too many brands. If it were me, I'd kill off GMC, Saturn and Buick. They have been lackluster for YEARs.

Ford on the other hand need to step up and start importing their vehicles from Europe, here. Their Fiestas, Focuses and Mondeos are fantastic products, god knows why it's never come over here. I personally think that everyone now has had such a negative image of American vehicles due to the junk produced 10 - 20 years ago, instead of what is being made NOW.

I honestly think biases for AMerican vehicles are just based on sterotype, and myth.

To be honest, I find GERMAN vehicle to be the most overrated and UNRELIABLE pieces of junk. EXpensive to maintain to boot, since BMW's "premium synthetic" motor oil, which isr around #20 a quart, is nothing more than just Castrol Syntec 5W30.

There's my piece, from a guy within the industry.
